Whole time I'm thinking

"That might be one of the few times when wearing a Life Jacket in the truck could be beneficial".

I know as a fellow Michigander, A-jay will agree that this is not so far fetched as over the years the Coast Guard has had to do many idiot ice rescues

I was thinking the whole time that ice can't be that thick if it's that clear.  Good one!

Depends on the situation when it freezes. When I was taking Limnology class at Bemidji State, we'd go out on the ice in the winter. There was a good size section behind the college that was clear enough to see bottom. We were worried, so drilled a couple test holes...10" of clear ice...which is enough to handle a Land Rover.
