When we were on the road in the motor home for the first 5yrs after retiring, I had a rule which a lot of RV owners have...

We stop after 4 hours or 4:00 which ever comes first.

Of course we weren’t on a timetable or  have a deadline

8 Hours to Okeechobee.. huh that might be worth looking into, that would be 12 hours for me through Northern VA. I'm not on a timetable per se but I have been pulling over around 3-4 pm and looking up a hotel. I'm sure that will have to stop. In any case I have a better phone than before and can check google earth from the road.

Thanks I might get out of the snow and ice this February. That would be funny, seeing a little bass boat towed in the snow in the middle of the night. I've been told Guntersville water temp is OK then but the air isn't and your covered in ice sickles.

8 hours isn’t going to get you to Okeechobee.?  Maps says it’s 13 hours without stops for fuel and food.  We went to Palm Coast and stayed the night so that we had a short drive the next day and could fish 1/2 day.   I’m an early driver.  It’s not unusual for me to be on the road at 3am.

Well finally made it out. Found a good fishing hotel, everyone was decent and helpful.

Found one major security thing to do. I have a little 17' crestliner. I get compliments all the time. But once that cover is on its just a little crappie boat.

It's a heavy duty cover designed to be used on the road. Just to see inside you'd have to cut 6 straps and ropes.

I don't tow with it on, to expensive to risk a rip.

I must admit this was easier than I was expecting.

Two you can use:

Hampton Inn, Scottsboro, Al.(Big G) ; Sleep Inn, Dayton , Tn.(Chickamauga)

Both are newer and have electric hook-ups on the parking lot. They are geared toward folks who fish.

Again thanks a ton. I  just did my first 4 day trip and it went very smooth. I have a few minor things to fix, then another trip in August and I think I'm ready for Scottsboro AL in late September.

Well, if you ever come to GA my hotel has boat trailer parking with water and electric hookups. We also have eight boat slips with electric hookups.

I'll keep Oconee in mind. Looks like a long one day drive from Huntsville AL.

Get on the phone and call. I've travelled the southeast with the boat and have found plenty of hotels that are trailer friendly.

Exactly.  Many hotels will not say "boat and trailer parking available" but if you call them and ask they'll have answers.  At worst, you'll have to separate your tow vehicle and trailer.

Yep, it's still kinda the same. You look up the local number and get India. My new phone has a good version of Google earth on it, so far its been great. I won't even ask or tell from now on. I'll just check in and park. They have a problem,  it will be gone in the morning.

I'm sure the night shift won't care.

Well learned Sunday through Tuesday night hotel people have canned lies for fisherman.

So I'm stuck and in a class 0.1 hotel with mean,  really obnoxious people. A lake at 65°. Every inch of the shore line has a rental on it. All the major rich folks  come here and they act it too.

This place is so packed tight two trailers will hit if they try and pass each other.

Haha where are you? I’ve got a guest bedroom and huge driveway. Can trade lodging for fishing stuff

Far western MD on a cold platue. The lake is at 2500 ft. 60°water, wicked wind that changes every five min.

Everyone knows where the fish are,.... under the three thousand private docks.

Wish I knew that a few weeks ago. The wife wanted to go to Dollywood and stay at the Dreamore. I was hoping to hit Douglas a few times but they don’t allow trailers to park there so it was shows and Dollywood.

Oh dear, I hate to hear that! You better hit me up next time. We went to Dollywood a whole lot as kids and I hated every second haha. I swore I would never go back but imagine I’ll get dragged there one day

Gotcha. Sorry no help with Maryland! Never laid eyes on that state

Deep Creek lake. It's about 3 hrs west. Always had the rep of being  cold and the mountain vacation spot for any good Baltimorian and DC politician.

If you're from the city It's wide open wilderness. If you're from a farm It's buildings cramed in every nook. Saw millions dollar boats just sitting on the water already wrapped up (why it's wrapped in the water I have no clue, it will be ice by Dec 15th.

My legs won't let me drive that long then do anything. Most go out for a day.

Deep Creek is probably less busy now than a month ago, but it’s always busy. Maybe pop south to Moomaw in VA? Beautiful place

Well since you said any imput is appreciated, I'll toss this out for anyone else whom it may help, if not the OP.

An RV, or a truck with a bed in it and a campground with electrical hookups. Low security risk since you sleep with your stuff. And cheap.

May not be practical for the OP, I don't know. My van has a bed in the back so I can sleep pretty much wherever I want. If you need the comfort of a hotel room then obviously not a good choice for you.

Just an oops caught fish.

Deep Creek gave me a 19" baby pike on 6lb line Tuesday.

Oh Tuesday was PERFECT fishing weather, overcast and rainy.

One bummer my best lure is now long long gone, I'll have to wait until next spring to replace it if I can.
