The only time I add a trailer to a spinnerbait is when I want  a little more weight , then I'll add a section of a stick worm . 

Here in Florida, the best spinnerbait trailer I have found is the Zoom split tail trailer. I have been using them for years.  Anything you can do to improve a spinnerbait's fish catching appeal is a good thing.  If you experiment, you will find what works best for you. If you stay the same, your fishing will stay the same.  More important than the trailer is the trailer hook.  I understand why some anglers avoid them as they increase hang ups.   Not using one costs you more fish than you know.  If you don't care about that, don't use one.  You will never know about the fish you don't catch.

I always have a trailer on a jig.  I don't think I have ever fished a spinnerbait with a trailer before.

Love throwing a spinnerbait.  Doesn't matter when, where or how.   Usually w/o a trailer and sometimes a trailer hook.  Love throwing jigs, too.  Always with a trailer, mostly a craw trailer (Z-Craw, or SK Rage Craw), mainly throw Nichols.  Love throwing jigs because they are so versatile.  You can swim them, skip them, flip, any vertical presentation;  all with the same jig.

No you don't and I often don't use one but when I do, it's usually either a split tail trailer or a paddle tail.

i was having problems with my paddle tails tail getting hooked on the trailer hook point many times. I dont remember the brand but they were so flexible so i shortened them up to fix the problem.

I almost always use trailers on spinnerbaits and always on jigs.

 

Spinnerbait trailers enhance the profile, provide additional movement, and add buoyancy and lift (how/where it rides in the water column).  Much like blade size/shape can influence depth and retrieval speed, so to can your trailer choice.  If you want to minimize lift and buoyancy but still enhance the profile & movement, something like a Zoom split tail would work.  You could also use some of the replacement skirts with elongated strands (I.e. Strike King Perfect Skirts) which basically function as a trailer.

 

As far as trailer hooks, I always use unless conditions do not allow.  Yes you will have the trailer catch on the hook occasionally but you will also catch many on the trailer hook only.

I always fish a trailer on my jigs and bladed baits, but I'll vary the size and shape a good bit.  I usually fish a trailer on my spinnerbaits.  My favorite spinnerbait trailer is a curly tailed grub.  The only trailers on my buzzbaits are the trailer hooks, which are mandatory.

Always a trailer on both.

I often remove the skirts from spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and leave a trailer on.

I always use a trailer on a jig. Usually a netbait paca chunk, sometimes a Rage Tail craw, Sweet Beaver or Rage Bug.

 

I only use a trailer on a spinnerbait when I'm getting short strikes.
