Finesse C-Rig Rod Choice

Featured Replies

I’m wanting to try this rig and would like to get an idea on rod power and tip. It would not be a mojo rig, I would set it up like the traditional C-Rig with a 1/4 oz weight and fish it on spinning gear. The options I’m considering are a MH/F, M/F, or a ML/F. Which would be my best option?

I throw all my C-rigs on Casting gear, 1/8 & 3/16 on a M, 1/4 & 3/8 on a MH 1/2 & 3/4 oz on a H

Big single hooks, I want a MH in a baitcaster. A good M in a spinning rig can work, too. Then again, I decent hooksets with my Bass X ML/XF and 3/0 EWG’s with Zoom Tricks. But that’s an easy bait to drive the hook through.

I would say for C-Rigs, especially, it really depends on whether you are on a boat or the bank. C-Rigs are not very cooperative with bank casting.

On a boat.

i would use a medium heavy. the most important thing is it needs to be long 7foot minimum. 76 even better.

Me too, I like the SCs XF ML for floating worms and nose hooked flukes

Well, a split shot rig might meet the criteria. If I'm going with a swivel and beads

I want more size and generally use an egg weight.

Im not going to tell you which rod to get, but you’ll have a lot more options, since casting am distance is probably not a factor.

There’s nothing finesse about a Carolina rig. Heavier the sinker the better, it’s all about bottom contact

i use a finesse style C-Rig with 1/16 to 3/16 - keeps the offering 6-12” off the bottom with plastics that have flappy parts. It works sometimes.

Thanks for the responses! Lots of food for thought! I have fished the split shot in the past, but had difficulty with bottom contact. Will give the traditional c-rig with a heavier weight a shot and see what happens.
