We talk all day about boats and paddle things. 
 

but my truck.  2006 Toyota 4c4 Tacoma.  I did three trips to a remote lake at the end of a dirt road. I changed my oil.  And then peeked at my air filter.  Whoa. It was dirty.  I could juuuuussst see light from the sun thru some of the pleats. 
 

im gonna change my differential and t-case oil next.  Maybe my plugs. 
 

you DIY your “get you to the fishing spot” rigs?  Me nothing tomorrow no Not tomorrow, I’m fishing Clearlake:)

Oil changes and tire rotations are done at Goodyear on the SuperDuty for $30.00 out the door. K&N air filter is cleaned and re oiled once a year. 

 

In my younger years I'd be all over it. I managed a quick oil change joint in my early 20's. Tinkered with cars a lot more than I do now. Swapped tranny's, replaced U joints, Replaced water pumps, head and valve plate gaskets, alternators, brakes, and what not. Still have all the tools. Today, not so much. Since I got crippled, it can be extremely frustrating to get my left arm to do what I need it to do. I replaced a pump in the dishwasher a week ago and not only did it take me way longer than it should, I cussed thru-out the repair because my brain gets frustrated with my arm. My brain is like a back seat driver and my arm is like a senior citizen driving, oblivious to all his/her surroundings.

The longevity of any machine is dependent on regular fluid changes and lubrication. Change out your fluids and filters and you're golden, in most cases.  Following the OM's suggestions on maintenance is a lost art. People these days seldom even crack open an OM, much less follow the maintenance guidelines.

One of my friends is a service tech at the local Chevy dealership.  I trust him and take my trucks to him when they need work or service.  I hate working on knuckle buster stuff.

Im still unsure how my truck functions. All I know is I put a strange cut piece of metal in and everything lights up and starts working.

Vehicles exceeded my skill level years ago.  I can top off fluids and have in the past done a lot of wrenching (clutch, alternator, water pump, change the oil, air filter, oil filter, etc.) on my 1993 Jeep Wrangler but with the truck, I let the shop handle it.  With my 2004, 3/4 ton Silverado I had free oil changes for life and with my 2016, I just used my last free negotiated oil change.  Something that slipped by me on my 2004 was that you need to bleed and refill your brake fluid.  My brake lines rusted out from the inside out and it almost put my truck in the Potomac river.  I do have a friend who is very mechanical and we do brakes and other easy maintenance.

Cars ant truck are what make me money  and the saying about auto mechanics and there cars isn’t entirely true lol. I do keep up on my maintenance to a point. Right now I have to invest about 2000$ into my GMC 2500 HD.  Tiers belts and need to replace my leaky radiator that’s been dripping for about 2 months lol need to make sure she is good enough to keep making it to the boat ramps and back home

I do all my own mechanical work.

 

I’ve been driving Toyota trucks for over 20 years and have combined 600,000+ miles w/o any break downs or leaks.

 

Just oil, brakes, tires, and occasional battery.

 

I keep them clean to a fault, including engine compartments.

My bass vehicle needs work but it’ll have to wait til maybe November. Good thing I live close to the water. I think I need ball joints or something in the front end, way beyond my skills. I just change oil and filter and get a shade tree man to do the rest 

I maintain mine well.  I DIY what I can but pay for those things beyond my skill set.
