live scope and drift paddles

Featured Replies

I fish out of a 21 foot skeeter.  Im a lifetime bass fisherman(mainly smaller lakes) but have just moved to a 20,000 acre lake with my first real bass boat with all the electronics etc... I'm using my Garmin Livescope quite often now to locate big fish.  One problem I've been trying to solve is fishing offshore using my live scope in wind.  Since my live scope transducer is mounted on my trolling motor I have found it difficult to "stay on" the structure or the fish in a wind with the Garmin.  Since spot lock keeps me there but renders my live scope vision useless, has anyone ever heard of using power pole drift paddles to slow you down while still being able to "aim" your live scope at the target?  seems like that would work on windy days.  Anyone have an opinion on this, or has anyone ever done this themselves? thanks!

The drift paddle seems to help a little. I have two drift anchors I deploy on a really windy day..they seem to work better. You need to orient the boat with the paddles...not so much with the drift anchor.

There's your problem ;)

yeah, the wind is kind of a drag when trying to use livescope while spot locked w/ a TM mounted setup... On my old 21ft ProCraft I used to have my LS mounted on an independant pole that I would turn manually with my hand and I kind of miss it...

There are several Livevscope pole solutions on the market.  Whether you want to keep it attached to your TM or use a separate pole not attached.  Try a Google search for Livescope Transducer Pole and you'll find many designs for many prices.

I had a Fishing Specialties pole on my last boat but when I switched to my current rig, I just use it attached to my Ultrex as it suits my fishing style and I prefer to be hands free.

Thanks for the advice y'all.

Regular old anchors aren't allowed on modern bass boats. It's the law.
