Pros and cons to stainless steel line guides on a rod?

Never hard enough for braids. Grooves are cut too easily. I have replaced all SS guides on rods.

Only cons.

I don’t like them.

interesting at that price point for sure

Functional if you only use mono. Braid and flouro both groove them quickly. 

I've fished them hard on the Susquehanna for 4 years and never had an issue with the Pac Bay Minima's on the Big Bear rods. Brian.

A couple of the 13 rods I use have SS Alps guides.  The 7'1 M F Muse has seen 3 years of heavy use without any issues.  

There are different grades of SS just like every thing else. Good ringless guides are light and durable. I don’t go out of my way to use them with a few exceptions.

It uses stainless steel guide frames with zirconia inserts. The tip guide has a sic insert. Same with Omen Black 2s, but no sic tip top.

I've been using a $79 Lew's Carbon Fire 7'3" H for a few years throwing frogs and baits up to a Magdraft Freestyle. The guides are still perfect using 50lb braid exclusively, so I agree.

Yup it’s actually contaminants (sand, grit, etc) that grooves anything not the line really. Certain applications require certain tools.

Yes.

I cast Constantly 8 am to sun down . Weather permitting. May 15 to Sept. 15 from boat & shore . Very shallow water and rocks.  So the dirt in 6# braided is a real condition.  Some rods are cheapy for kids & guests. So they always had S S. 4 # mono does /  did  cut them quickly. All are now synthetic. No wear at all.

 

All flyrods never get grooves because the fly lines are such large diameters and have a large rubbing surface.
