River2Sea S Waver

Featured Replies

Looking the S Waver, everyone says the Lite Trout is the deal. Will it work in Texas? We don't have trout. What color is an effective color?

I fish the lite trout in waters that don't have trout. If you have second thoughts, and you have say bluegill in your lake/pond then go with that, also babybass would be a good choice too.

So you're saying if the bass sees that lure they will not hit it because they know there are no trout in Texas?

60 yrs of bass fishing I've never seen a lizard in the water or anything that looks like a Rat-L-Trap, or a Rage Bug.

The Lite Trout is basically a "bone" color.

I once owned the s waver in light trout but I have since sold it due to how similar the color was to the bluegill, the base color on the gill is almost identical with the addition of side bars and a darker back, but they have basically the same high visibility presence in the water.

Bone and lite trout would be my color choices here, and we have very few lakes that have trout and that's only during a limited time of year.

send it!

Lite Trout just works. I also agree with Bluegill and Pac Man if you have carp.

Those subtle color differences are mostly to catch fishermen.  I would stick with something resembling a shad and/or bluegill.  Personally, bone is a pretty safe color in Texas since our waters are not usually very clear.  If I was fishing the church retention pond in your profile, I would probably go with bluegill as my first choice.

I have a few trout colored lures that catch bass in lakes that have never had a trout in them.  Bass don't care.  My most productive color is probably firetiger, and there's never been a chartreuse and black striped fish in the history of earth.

If the trout doesn't work, consider that it might be because there aren't any bass big enough to eat that bait.  I wouldn't blame the color right away.  I tend to catch more channel cats with that lure than anything else, as 5+lbs bass are extremely hard to come by in my local lakes.  And those 2-3lbers just can fit a bait that size in their mouth.

Several years ago while at the Anglers Marine Bass A Thon chatting with Matt Neumann introducing his new IROD,  he had R2Sea S-Wavers. I asked Matt about them and said they work good.

The S-Wavers colors were brighter then I liked so I ask if he was painting them more realistic colors?, Matt said no they work out of the box. So I found the R2 Sea display introducing the new lure and bought a few trout 200’s that looked more chartreuse then trout green.

Caught some good size bass on S-Wavers but nothing over 6 lbs since then before selling everything last year. Don’t let the goody colors fool you, they work.
