@Tatulatard

you didn't have to fish long to find that out of context

This one will cast 3 g to 70' - 100% backlash proof - the 3 g was never my target, but 1/2 oz (15 g) - just tried the 3 g for grins and used it for internal mag set.

It's a beast for skipping 1/4 to 1/2 oz.

read my lips - 8' surf rod

I do like the ABU's 5500, but, unfortunately, I don't have it anymore.

I do deploy 2 round bc's that have been really good to fish with: Quantum US-300 Round Baitcasting Reel

Sorry, both are interwebz images, my bc's are at my home in ME.

3 grams, or a bit under 1/8 oz, to 70 feet with an 8 foot rod.  Gotcha.

still no, that's 3 g to 70' with a 5-1/2' rod and a LW braid 4600 targeted for 1/2 oz.

The 8' rod is a surf rod that will cast 1/4 oz to over 65 yds and 1/2 oz to over 100 yds with my braid modified 5500CT

You need to work on your communication skills friend.  This is what you posted.  It reads as if you cast 3 grams 70 feet with an 8 foot rod with heavy emphasis on it being an 8 foot rod.

That's just not right... :)

Maybe I'll bring one out of retirement next week for throwing A rigs.

I have three round Abu reels. The last one I bought was a 5600c3 Hank Parker model from BPS back in 2003.  This is the one I use for punching down through matted vegetation.

The other two I bought off of my dad back in the early 2000s.  A 5500c3, and a 5600c4  that were around 10 years old or so when I got them.  All three still work, and are on the rods that I originally paired them with.

How do the old Morrum ( 5600/6600) reels rate as to quality compared to the Swedish Ambassadors ? I saw a couple NIB at an auction recently but wasn’t familiar with them or casting characteristics.  Looked solid….

Guys who have them love them.   I kind of want one.  I think they are more akin to an Abu conquest or ryoga than ambassador.

I have 2 Morrums, SX1601C and SX3601C, that are my main reels for bass and crappie fishing. So much fun. Both were lightly used when I got them. I cleaned and re-greased both. I upgraded both with Carbontex drag washers, Air BFS micro ceramic spool bearings, 4-pin brakes, and 4-bearing handles. They're both on Abu Garcia Abumatic ML-F rods, but the the 1601 Abumatic is rated at 4-10lb line and the 3601 Abumatic is rated at 6-12lb line.  I can throw down to 1/16 with the 1601 and 1/8 with the 3601 with no issues.  Did I mention so much fun?

I have at least a dozen of them in regular use.  All are 1970's thru late 1980's models.

In my opinion, they are the finest pieces of fishing craftsmanship you could possibly own.

I'm right handed and fish Lefty reels. That is the correct location for the spool release button IMO. I had a couple quantum's years ago that had a plastic button on the left side and I prefer that to a thumb bar. Not a huge issue but, I do like it better.

I much prefer the side button. I’ve broken a few of the plastic thumb buttons on the spool, unfortunately they are tied into the whole frame so you can’t just replace the thumb button, have to replace the whole frame

The 5500 has the button, the other two have the thumb release.
