Trying to find a frog from years ago...

Featured Replies

I think maybe it was an old Spro design, and I'm not sure if they're even made anymore. I purchased it at Walmart many years ago.

Instead of having the many strings look for legs, there were two pieces of single rubber on each side for legs. And the frog's body felt like it was hard rubber.

It's a Spro Bronzeye Pop: https://spro.com/products/bronzeye-pop-70

Did they stop making them? The link takes me to the stringy leg design frog.

I'm not sure what you mean?  The pic you posted is a current Spro lure.

The legs were different than that look. They didn't have the stringy leg design, but instead a single piece of rubber for each leg.

Bill Plummer frog , maybe?

Just checked. Unfortunately that wasn't it.

I don't have an answer, but I bet that particular frog has a terrible hook up percentage ?

It was okay. The frog felt kinda like a gum eraser. Hard body, but you could squeeze it down.

Just found it!

Apparently it was a Bill Dance promoted lure.

FYI,.... RTW was joking that hook-up rate was terrible because the image you included had no hooks. ?

Strike king grass popping frog?  I used to catch a lot on it like 20 years ago.  It was the only popping type frog at the time I could find.  I used to pop it in duck weed and caught a lot of bass.  Theh are very light weight and react with soft plastics.  They're made from a squishy floating solid rubber material.

I have one of those. I've caught exactly 1 bass on it. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it works. I just moved on to the hollow body frogs. I also have one of these. I caught my first bass over 6 lbs. on it almost 20 years ago.

So let me get this straight. You posted a picture of a bait, asking what it is, but it's not the bait you're looking for, so we're supposed to guess a bait for you that you have no idea what it is?

If you fished the bait you would remember it based on his description.  I figured it out but I also used to fish them a lot years ago.

I've never stated that was the bait in the photo. The photo was an example of what I meant by stringy leg designs, as the frog in the photo actually have that type of legs. The frog I was speaking of didn't have legs like that. I'm not sure why people thought I was speaking of the frog in the image, when it doesn't fit the frog I was defining in my post.

Like Tatul pointed out, if someone fished with that frog, they'd probably recall it; not stringy legs, and a hard rubber design. It kinda feels like a gum eraser. I don't think there's ever been a frog on the market like it. Just those two combinations narrows the frog down a lot, considering the majority of frogs are either hard body, or hollow plastic, with many of the hollow ones having the whole stringy design.

I haven't thrown one in years. But when I owned one, my frog collection was very limited. I too have been using hollow popper frogs.

What frog is that one? I'm attempted to try and buy one to use. Suddenly I have an urge to try vintage lures.

By default I use a BUNCH of vintage lures.  I sold my boat 30 years ago and didn't fish until a couple years ago when my Grandkids got me started back.   I believe depth and presentation (and being where the fish are) is more important than lure selection, but I've caught quite a few bass fishing right behind someone who didn't.  Perhaps they learn certain lures, and haven't seen mine before.

I don't know the name or make. It's been in my box for years.

I'm probably wrong, but this sure seems like a Bill Plummer Super Frog, with the flat legs. I bought one at Wal Mart many years ago.

Just seen you're in North Carolina too! Hey!

That could be true. In one of my earlier topics about yellow lures, someone posted about a pro fisherman who loves black and yellow jigs, at least I think it was jigs. His reason for not using other combo colors was because everyone else throws them.
