Musky Reels - Daiwa Prorex vs Shimano Tranx 400 vs Abu Revo Toro Beast

Featured Replies

Have basically narrowed it down to these 3 reels for a musky setup….anyone have any thoughts/suggestions…again, the reels I’m looking at are the Daiwa Prorex, Shimano Tranx 400, and Abu Garcia Revo Toro Beast

The only real "musky rod" I have sports the Abu Garcia.

It's a good reel and works well.

I don't throw big lures much, I've learned that they'll eat smaller stuff just as often if you put it in front of them.

I have a Shimano Tranx 400 and I like it. I have never fished with the others.

Go for the Revo beast. A true big game compact reel. The Tranx is too much hype, actually the weakest of these 3.

I’d probably go with the Revo Beast too.

I throw my big swimbaits with a Abu Beast 60 HS and a Tranx 400A and like them both. The Beast cast a bit farther but the Tranx is a tad bit more compact and both are overkill for what I throw.

You know you're going after some plus sized largemouth when you're using reels intended for muskies. ?

Can't go wrong with any of those 3 in my opinion. I fish a Lexa 400 and old abu C3 6500s. If i upgraded Id go prorex or tranx.
