I apologize if this isn’t the correct forum for this but I’m wondering what I should use each of my rods for. I currently have a 7’0 medium heavy fast I was thinking about using for jigs and Texas rigs and probably Carolina rigs. I also have a 6’6 medium heavy fast and a 6’6 medium fast rod. I just ordered some reels and I have a 8.1:1 and a 6.6:1 and a 6.4:1 without and line on them. I would like to throw Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits and crank baits. If any of the rods I have won’t work well for those lures I’m still debating about getting another rod and reel. 
 

Back to my original question… what lures would work on those rods I said I have? Thanks

6’6” med fast - 6.4:1 - 10lb floro cranking

6’6” mh fast - 6.6:1 - 40-60lb braid topwater

 7’ mh f 8.1:1 - 40lb braid to leader of your choice trigs and Carolina

Medium rod with trebles

Medium heavy rods with single hooks

8.1:1 on 7’

Coin flip for the other 2 reels

Not the Medium.  Either MH will be good to go.

You can do a lot with those three rods . the 7 footer would be my wormin rod . The other two will have to fish everything else . The mh for slightly heavier lures than the med . You can throw spinnerbaits , chatterbaits , buzzbaits , cranks... on  both rods . The mh might be best for 1/2 ounce lure , the med for 1/4 . You will have to figure that out for yourself . Learn how to under hand toss your baits accurately to visible cover , so matching weight to the rod is recommended .

Thanks for the replies! I know this is probably meant for a seperate post but what line would you use for spinners and chatterbaits? I was thinking Invizx or yo zuri hybrid because i have heard a lot about it...

 

Spinners and Chatters I run on straight 40# Sufix 832 braid - not even a leader. Bass is going to react to the lure, and since it's moving he's not gonna notice the line.

All my cranks are done on either 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid on my MH/MF rig, or 8# YZH on my M/F rig for anything under 3/8oz.

It’s going to be personal preference…there is no right answer.  Personally, I like fluoro and use it on pretty much everything except topwater and my heavy sticks (heavier than the one’s you have listed).  There is nothing wrong with choosing braid or mono.  I typically use Sniper but have multiple 600yd spools of InvizX.  I’m not married to a specific brand as long as it’s good quality.

do you consider yo zuri to be high quality

I've been using it for years, and other than pike-teeth it hasn't let me down.

 

I like the fact that it seems to be neutrally buoyant - mono floats, FC sinks, YZH likes to 'stay put - so it doesn't seem to affect the tracking of my cranks in any way.

I have never used it but there are a LOT of folks on the site who have and pretty much all seem to like it.  I have no reason why I haven’t tried it other than I just haven’t.  
 

I also like to use fluoro for cranks because I always want to be banging into something and feel like I can usually reach depths with fluoro and line size changes that I might otherwise have to go to the next depth diver to achieve with other line types.  I always try to minimize tug of war when possible.  Again, that’s just my preference…nothing wrong with other choices.

The M would be good for shallow cranks, JBs and maybe even lipless.

The 7' MH can throw just about anything but out of all the rods it would probably handle spinnerbaits and chatterbaits the best.

The 6'6 MH should work for plastics and jigs. 

I prefer FC, unless I'm fishing some really heavy cover and need braid.  I would put 12lb invizx on the M and 15lb invizx on the MHs. Good luck

I would spool the  7 footer with 17 lb trilene xl amd the othet two with 12 lb Big Game .

I will probably end up putting braid on for the jig rod... should I use backing for the braid or just straight braid

Whatever you prefer…you are going to get both answers and both are correct for the person answering.  I’ll start…I don’t use backing on braid.

Backing is only so that braid doesn't slip around the spool.  (And it means you can use less braid to get to a full spool.)  You can use a piece of electrical or painters tape on the spool to prevent slipping....or you can tie through the holes in the spool.  Any non-braid line will do what you need.   Whatever old line you have around works.  Backing and leaders are the only reasons I don't get too mad when I end up with a spool of fluoro with 20 yards left.
