Senko colors... why so many?

Featured Replies

If anyone on here who is a GY senko guy (like me) tries those bulk Bitters and they are just as good, let me know. $35 for 88 seems like a great deal.

Ive tried the Yum Dingers and they just aren’t as good.

Different fishermen bite on different colors.

Too many choices? I don't see a problem.

  • Most of the bait sold is to catch fishermen, not fish.   I now limit it to Black, GP and sometimes June Bug.  Done!

As has been said, Kinami were exactly the same pours as the other Yamamoto baits but he did offer some different colors.  If I remember correctly you had to order a minimum of 700 bags to get a custom color pour.  I do not know if that option is available anymore but I can ask if enough want to know.

It's pretty much to sell more senkos to people who want different colors. In all reality, I can pick a handful and that's all I'd ever really need, but someone else might think watermelon with black and red flakes is better than with just red flakes, so that exists too.

Each and every Senko is unique and valid.  We should celebrate their differences rather than question why they exist.

Intesting academic study on the effect of lure colour on bass fishing productivity:

TL;DR - colour doesn't matter that much except in a couple of corner cases where: (i) certain colours work less well (e.g., firetiger on crankbaits) and (ii) certain colours work better for catching larger bass (i.e., "[i]n our study bright lure colours, orange and white [note: correlate with colours found on golden shiners], had a significant relationship with the total length...").

BTW, I didn't double check the authors' methodology nor the accuracy of their regression analysis, so if you have a beef with the study (or studies cited therein), then please take it up with their respective authors.

Good enough for me.

But I was already on the 'color don't matter (much) train'.  Largely because of another study with pretty good methodology that showed that bass can can only distinguish a few basic colors.  (I'll link it if I find it again)
