Randy Blaukat would be so proud of you...

I just cant justify running several thousand dollars of electronics on a 14 foot jon boat . My vintage Eagle Fishmark works like new . Throw in some tape and buoys I'm the most technically advanced  dude on the lake .?

This 250 acre lake I fish has sunken cedar trees in several places . Most of them not visible . I've been finding them , then tying orange tape on shore-line trees so I know exactly where they are .   If you saw some marking tape on a tree , what would you think ? Would you search the area for a fishing spot , or more likely ignore it because it could be marking anything ?

I would think someone had the property surveyed because I've seen people doing this.

A C-rig, FB jig and a blade bait are my electronics (kayak).

I wouldn’t think it was marking fishing spots since most people are using GPS for that these days.  If I saw enough of them I would probably put a lot of effort into trying to figuring out  what they are marking because I enjoy solving puzzles.

A spot that I have fished for at least 25 years has three large PVC pipes sticking up out of the water.  They are lined up and equal distance apart.  The center one sticks up about 20 feet out of the water.  The other two stick up about 15 feet.  I still stay awake at night wondering why they are there.  ?

Her: "I bet he's thinking about other women."

Him: "Why are those pipes sticking out of the water?"

Maybe but he's probably still casting and running his trolling motor wrong

Hes also writing his script to talk about this very topic in a week or 2. The more time I spend on here the more I realize how much crap he steals from this site.

More on topic: I always would assume those were survey markings or tags for tree cutting. Going to pay a bit more attention to them now if I see some just for a little fun. I'd be willing to bet the majority (and by the replies in this thread) would think similarly.

As an old school triangulator, I check everything I see marked.

There are people who will mark things at different times

there are a couple brush piles that are 20 feet deep at full pool

When the water is down they had some red tape on them.

sure enough, these were marking brushpiles out from the ones that were 20 feet deep and you'd only see the tape at winter pool.

These 40 feet deep brushpiles are summertime gold

I remember the good ol’ days when it took skill to find and stay on offshore spots.  Sometimes I feel guilty when using my electronics to easily do what used to be so challenging.   I get over the guilt quickly when the fish start biting.  ?
