Abu Fantasista rod?

Featured Replies

TW has them on sale for 159.98. I know they were $299. Can anyone give any feedback on these. Looking at the 6'10".

Soon.  Lol....I noticed in another thread that a few BR members are ordering.

I have the 7' MF (which I haven't seen for sale).  I got it as a warranty replacement for an AG rod from a discontinued model.

It is very light and sensitive.  It serves very well as my primary jerkbait rod.  It does part time duty as a light t-rig rod.  My only complaint has been that the optimum lure weight for casting has a pretty small window.  I don't know the 'official' weight rating, but it unfortunately doesn't load up well with light baits.  I have to use 3/16 or 1/4 with light plastics, when I might prefer 1/16 or 1/8.

I've seen reviews of the MH rods in the lineup and nobody has suggested the same is true for those.

I was tempted to order one at that price, but truth be told, I have never had an modern Abu rod that I have liked. I've heard a lot of good feedback on those Fantasista rods, but many say they aren't a $300 rod, but decent deal for $150. If that's the case, not much of a bargain at the current price.

I've had Vengence, Vendetta, Veritas and about any other "Ve" rod you can think of and have gotten rid of every one. Tried to like them, but in my opinion all Abu rods tend to run higher power than marked and seem stiff to me. Plus the black coating on their reel seats always tends to start getting tacky and rubbing off.

The only Abu rod I still have is an OLD 6'6" MH Hank Parker signature crankbait rod. I like it because it has a short grip and works well for working squarebills, spinnerbaits and chattertubes around cover.

Interested to hear from others though!!

Get you a Daiwa Tatula 159.00 You want regret it.

I got the 7'6" MH yesterday. I haven't even put line on it yet but it's light and balances really well for its length with a reel. The blank feels very crisp and has what seems like a fairly soft tip but transitions into power very quickly. The build quality is good and it seems like a rod that would be sensitive but until I fish it some that is just a guess.

On first impression it feels like a good buy at $159 and I might buy another.

ML or MH?

I ordered the 7-6m spin and 7-6mh casting.  I've heard good things.  TW reviews are swaying for sure.

My 7' MH just showed up today. I'm hoping to get on the water with it tomorrow. Seen a lot of positive reviews on it.

Tackle Tour gave these good reviews. Well, specifically the 7' med-heavy. My only issue is the weight. It comes in at 5.3 oz, which is quite heavy for a rod that size. They do say it feels more like a heavy power rod than a med-heavy, and that it balances quite nicely FWIW.

I just weighed my 7'6" MH and it came in at 5.2 oz, which feels pretty reasonable for a rod that long rated to 1.5oz. It balances right in front of the reel nut with a 6.5 oz reel.

I'm seriously thinking about buying the 6'10" ML casting while they're still available.

That weight surprises me.  My 7-6M spinner showed up...just unwrapped it.  If my cat didn't want to go outside, it may have stayed on the porch all nigjt.  It is indeed balanced and feels 'tight and right'.  I'm happy so far...

Great...that is indeed an acceptable weight considering length/power/balance.  My casting 7-6 will be here tomorrow.

Not sure what Tackle Tour was talking about then. 5.3 oz does seem quite heavy for a rod with that rating/price. Just so you don't think I'm lying/crazy/dumb/blind/younameit.

Yeah that's weird, the TT weight seemed pretty heavy which is what made me curious to weigh mine as it doesn't feel overly heavy. My scale is accurate as far as I know. ?‍♂️
