headed to the hardware store. fishing rod storage.

I think my wife would be less annoyed at my burgeoning fishing rod combo inventory if I kept them stored neatly.  I have an idea in my mind for a cheap and easy vertical rod rack.  I have very little free wall space in my garage, but the wheels in my brain are turning.  oh-o.

I'm gonna spend my lunch time at the hardware store.  I think some 2x4's and a fistful of those plastic coated utility hooks...

may I see your rod storage solution?

1/2" x6" Sandalwood I had laying around, cut to 4" and 2" wide.

Drilled holes in 4" piece, brass screw hooks in 2" piece

Some 1/2"x1/2" attached to the back for the 'mounting brackets'.

Stained with oil based, sealed with polyurethane.

Works equally well when attached to a ceiling.

I don’t have pics but my neighbor across the street stores his on the ceiling in his garage.

I was always told they should be straight up and down vertical so they don't take a set.

I don't have a picture, but I use the type of hooks you referred to for my rod storage. I hung them horizontally because of space constraints. They're screwed directly into the studs in the wall in my garage. Three hooks per row seems to support the rods pretty well.

This is why I absolutely love my neighborhood mom and pop hardware store. It’s an Ace franchise but the owner keeps an aisle of fishing tackle….and I mean the good stuff. Missile Bait D-Bombs, Yamamoto, Zoom, and Crème. P-Line, Power Pro, Seaguar (including Tatsu).

Ive fished with him a few times and he is a bass head like me. Think I even saw a few Falcon Cara’s in inventory (behind the counter) ???

Nice project by the way!!!!! I need to do something similar for my truck bed to keep the rods off the floor of the bed.

got this done between work meetings.  skipped actual food for lunch.  haha.

(I could use some fasting if I'm being honest).

tada.  cost me $20 since I had scrap wood laying around.  looks like I have room for two more combos!!  my mountain bike is about a foot from the rods.  plenty of space to reach over.

Support them from the balance point. I have my surf rods on the garage ceiling on 1x4, and the tip is held down by a 1x2 which barely applies any force at all.

Here’s my two options, the store bought sets are field & stream which they no longer make ? and are absolutely perfect. I tried finding the upper holders online but cannot find them. The pvc version I made from scrap 1-1/2” pvc picked from a dumpster, the 1 x 6 came from some scrap door jambs I had laying around. My only cost was the machine screws holding the pvc to the boards.

No offense @T-Billy

Leaning rods drives me crazy.

I like these portable stands with carry handle to take on this annual winter trip.

Rods leaning on chairs and the cleaning stand can be a nemesis when you're trying to be stealthy to keep the schoolies visiting your dock light - they have many to choose.

Leaning rods was making my wife nuts.  I would always lean them against something she needed to get at. :)

t-billy, that is a lot of rods!   Wow.   Almost gives me anxiety. Haha.

Ha!!! It DOES give me anxiety!!! LOL.  Years of accumulation. I gave a bunch to my grandkids last year, and was down to 36 I think. Then I went on my Ark buying bender. The Essence I bought yesterday puts me back at 54 I believe. I'm hopeless. My wife fishes with me though, and we fish for several species. There's a couple dozen in regular rotation. We just moved in may, I'll build a rod rack sometime this winter for those that get used.

None taken my friend. I know I'm a disorganized mess. I'm not in denial, I just don't particularly care!!! ?
