the Siren's Song of MegaBass rods....

there is ZERO logic here.  i am doing perfectly fine with my very pedestrian collection of rods.  not once can i recall a bass i lost (that i know of) where i can say, "dang it!  if i only had  a P5: that bass would be mine!"  or was that a tick?  is that tick a bass?  i feel i dont miss many bites.

i kayak fish, so i would probably vomit and have to be put on suicide watch if i flip and lose four-digit$ of fishing rods.  it would hurt, hurt deeply. :D

but dang it if i dont want to experience first class fishing rods.  i would get two.  a casting and a spinning.  i have a Levante, and a Triza and if that is any indication..the P5 is definately rarified air for me.  i spent kidney money on binoculars and now i could never ever go back.  i imagine the same would happen with a P5.

i would plunk down some cash now, but i put too much money into my Amazon River fishing trip.  it aint happeing 2023.  maybe for Christmas i can swing ONE.  :D

Just wait until you develop a taste for the old slat bridges, x7s, other old models or jdm only rods. You get to deal with scarcity in addition to expense.

There is an Arms Super Leggera in my future but the blank I want is unavailable.

I have a few Megabass rods but this one is my favorite.  Evoluzion Super Diablo II.

The addiction is real.

I have full blown Megabassitis. I sold all of my NRX+ and Legend X/Elite rods to switch to all P5s and I am so very happy with them. NRX+ is SLIGHTLY more sensitive in my hands but I much prefer the P5s for how they fish, how they cast, and that almost secondary action of flex into the blank. Go into this without any illusion that you may be tempted to keep going once you get one, even if it feels unreasonable right now.

Not sure if I'd have a change of heart if I was willing to spend that much but if I was going to spend more than 200-300max on a rod I'd probably go custom instead. I'm sure the Megabass/st croix/Loomis top of the line are very nice but I'd want exactly what I want down to thread color for spending that cash.

That said the megabass line is super sexy looking.

That was one of the rods I was holding out for last year and now this year but I ended up getting another Valkyrie instead. JLS had the Evoluzion White Python in stock but only a few and so did Megabass Japan's website. They were gone in minutes.

You’re a brave man. Trading a lifetime replacement policy for nothing after 3 years.

I had a P5 dark sleeper and didn’t like It for what I wanted It for. Currently own two Orochi XX but only because I got them for $175 each new.
MB are the prettiest rods I’ve owned but I don’t think they blow my GLX or Dobyns Extreme out of the water or anything.

Maybe it’s like high end whiskey. You have to be more refined than I am to really tell a difference. Lol

I feel like the longer or lifetime warranties are baked into the price. I prefer the P5 to an NRX+, which is $125 more so basically the price difference to me comes down to a $125 insurance policy. I’d rather have the cost savings and roll the dice but that’s just me.

As for a matter of taste, the only reason I can tell the difference is because I tried a bunch of different ones and was more than willing to trade in if it didn’t suit my preferences 100%. As my tastes changed over time, the P5 just felt like exactly what I was looking for. And they aren’t popular in my area so I often get a great deal on them at the local shops.

Your replacement programs which is what a "lifetime warranty" is, is baked into the price of the rod at purchase and with a restock fee at the time of breakage.

I get that. It’s what everyone always throws out. But I was looking at purchasing a new USDM P5 FMJ or a GLX MBR recently. I could have gotten the P5 for $499 tyd from tackle Trap or the GLX for $480 tyd. One has 3 year replacement, one has lifetime replacement. In 4 years if I break either, I’m looking at $1000 total for 2 MB rods or $600ish for two GLX rods…

I guess if you believe the GLX is such an inferior rod to the P5 then that’s worth the gamble, great. I do not.

I’ve broken my Dobyns Extreme twice so I’m hard on gear (I’m getting better). I was happy to have the replacement policy.

All a moot point though because I ended up with the new Orochis for $175 lol.
And then a week later found a gently used GLX for $275.  Haha

If they both are equally good fishing tools but one looks cool and the other is ugly or just incredibly plain looking then I'm going for the cool one 100% of the time even if it has a worse warranty because I flip baits not fish.  I'm not a rod killer.

Lmao. Fair enough on the rods. I like the looks of both. One is futuristic, one is classic.  But I do take aesthetics into account.
Your truck comparison though, smh. Not even close to a comparable price between those two trucks. If they were the same price, who wouldn’t take the black one. But since they aren’t, it’s not JUST a matter of looks or warranty. It’s a matter of what you can afford.

My example was two rods off comparable prices.

Conquest rods are prettier and cooler and fish better. Everybody has an opinion. Of course I'm partially colorblind and old enough to sort of miss black and white tv.

Imagine you live in a world where those two trucks cost the same price and have the same pweformance but the bottom one can be driven off a cliff 100% your fault and Ram gives you a new one for a $10k fee.  Which one do you choose?

Lmao. Top one but that’s because it’s literally THAT much uglier.

Even my current two MB rods feel so stiff. But the tips seem softer which makes casting so easy. I pitch better than I ever have and further with my Levante.  Kinda the gateway drug for all things MB

egads!!!

I bought the MegaBass Triza Dragoon for this trip.  I will bring my reels to use with the guide's rods, but I hope to fish the Dragoon the most.  I was standing at the Hookup tackle and told them what I needed the rod for and they all said, "Dragoon".

me:  "oh...okay, $10 and $20's okay?"

I just bought my fishing license for Lake Texoma a few minutes ago.  so a dry run with the rod is planned.  I may lose my clothing, but I will walk off the plane in Brazil with what I have on, and my reels and one single MegaBass rod. :D

Not that you need my permission to do so, but it's your money to spend however you want  to. The joy of fishing means different things to different people.

Many years ago, I pictured Lake Texoma as a stark cold and windy pit of despair. Not sure why I had that image in my mind, but I did. Then I went there. It was a beautiful lake, full of life and fish. It was a little cold and we had rain off and on, but we fished from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and caught over 100 fish. Mostly on slabs, poppers and crankbaits. Loved it and can't wait to go back.

And make sure you stay on the right section of the lake. The 'line' varies and it might be unpleasant to get caught on the wrong side of the channel. Have fun and be safe.
