  • When we first moved into our place here 2008, we needed clear some land, build a small dog kennel and make the fenced in 'dog yard'. Most of it my hand.  Planted some trees and lots of grass.

  • I got up at 5:30am and stained my deck because it's so freaking humid today.  I finished by 9:30am.   Yesterday I prepped it by power washing it.   Glad this job is done for a coup

  • My wife and I started off with a 12’x12’ patio that lasted about 15-16 years and was still holding strong to replace it with this.

Forget about being a biologist.

If you don't become a fence / containment master, it's already over. You can do it.

I always wanted to be a dentist.

Currently dabbling in “containment” as we speak lol

But this is just a band aid. Our plants are growing taller than these little cages each day. Got a ton of wire fencing laying around so I’ll be building a garden perimeter fence. The raised beds only take up about 150 square feet so it won’t have to be huge. The gate part may get a little dicey but I’ll figure it out.

Some more progress. We have the “patio” part of this project pretty much complete. A picnic table and chairs are all that’s left:

Haven’t finished landscaping the garden portion because I’m waiting until we get our woodchuck situation figured out. Got somebody coming to do the removal next week, then we’ll be able to lay the stone and finally finish the entire project.

Hahaha! They usually bloody up their own nose trying to bust out the door but that does look suspicious. Unfortunately the folks where I caught that one wouldn’t dream of shooting a groundhog

Had the professionals here earlier in the week and they installed something that will be digging under the shed impossible for the chucks. This is their “eviction”. A one way door that they can leave from and never get back. The pros are gonna come back in a couple days to remove this and backfill it. I think the woodchuck has already packed up and left because we haven’t seen him and our vegetables haven’t been eaten in a while. Knock on wood.

I’ve only seen my little guy once in the past two weeks so maybe he’s moving in.

in the meantime, we have friends staying for the long weekend so I made the start of a court for the game Molky. I cut it about an inch shorter than the other grass and will keep it that height this weekend while the rest of the grass grows around it. I also got some sand to start leveling everything.

They guaranteed a chuck-free shed for 3 years so it better be impossible!

no, it’s a Finnish lawn game where you throw a wooden baton at pins on the ground.  Knock them over, set them back up, and knock them down some more. Each pin is worth a unique number of points. First to 50 exactly wins. It’s a good casual lawn game.

@casts_by_fly looks fun. I love lawn games. I’ll play corn hole for hours. We have ladder ball, “rungs” of pvc pipe are worth different number of points, and you toss golf balls tied together and try to get them around the rungs. A lot of fun.

we have a ton of lawn games among us. Our friend plays cornhole in two leagues so we don’t play cornhole as much. Kubb is a Swedish throwing game we like a lot but the throwing distance is almost horseshoes length and takes a lot more skill. Can jam is frisbee based and a good one for the beach. Bucket ball is beerpong with plastic buckets and a racquetball. All have their pluses and minuses. We play them all depending who is playing and where we are. And we’re always looking for the next good game.

Those are by far the two most regular lawn games I play too. It’s easy to hold a beer in one hand and toss with the other.

My deck is done.  I pressure washed it on Friday and let it dry in the sun yesterday while I was gone for a retirement gathering.  Today, I stained it.  It was HOT out there and took me about 2 hours to do all the horizontal surfaces like the floor boards, bench, rails, and stairs.  I took some before and after photos.  The vertical beams are in good shape, they do not need re-staining (yet).  I moved into this house May 2022 and the previous owners left me 3 full gallons of deck stain to use.  As you can see from the photos, some of the old stain was just starting to come up or wear out.  I used the pressure washer to remove the old stain that was loose on Friday.

Have to let it dry for 24 hours before putting items back.  That obviously includes the Weber grill that usually is up there.
