Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Featured Replies

I have a BassHound 9.4, which is more like a tri-hull than a twin pontoon type and it's very stable even with 2 people and gear. BassHound does make one a little bigger (the 10.4) which does have just that little extra room.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

Does anybody use the 40" x 48" Harbor Freight trailers for these boats? I know several of you have posted that you use HF trailers, but I'm curious how well the 48" ones work. Seem like they would be too short for a 10 foot boat?

Well I'm joining the plastic boat club. Picked up a 10E today at dicks sporting goods. I'm looking at a 40lb thrust trolling motor. I've got plans to make a small box to hold about 10 +/- 3700 series boxes that will sit under the back seat, and I picked up a small Rubbermaid tote that will go under the front seat to keep my soft plastics in. I'll post pics when I get the box all done.

so i grabbed the sun dolphin pro 102 and was just wondering what is the best way to mount the fish finder?

thanks guys

Got the motor on the front and my hunter has the wiring for it so Im fixing to get some terminals for the front so I can have the battry in back to displace the weight.

I installed minn kotas quick battery connectors, got em from walmart.com 10 bucks a set, well worth it and wally world free shipped it to store for me.

I liked the connectors so much I bought some more to attach both batteries as well, even went so far as to add them to my charger in my tracker. (which really helps)

Just plug them in and done.

 This is the deal!

My basshunter came with thru hull wiring from the factory,. I just attached one of these connecters on the front hull wire, and the trolling motor,..and another connector for the back hull wire, and the battery. Quick easy clean connections both up front and in the back,...

I used the clamp on posts for this battery so the wingnut terminals are open for me to attach it inline 24 volt on my tracker.

So I've seen guys make a rudder and put the fish finder transducer on the bottom? Seems it would be a good chance to break it off. Anyone run into this problem? Is it better not to incorporate it with the rudder? By the way, I did end up buying a 9.5 ft bass hunter. Just working on primping it out now. Hope I'm not being a pest with the questions.

I looked into  getting a rudder for mine but haven't yet. I put a heavy piece of concrete in the back to weigh it down ,and moved the battery back to about halfway.I sit in the front and have the trolling motor up front. If someone goes with me it also weighs down the back and there is no problem steering .

It will steer fine as long as the back is weighed down some.

Hi guys,

im new to the Bassraider "nation" (LOL).

im interested in installing a Bimini top so that I can be out on the water without frying on those hot summer days.

has anyone tried this before?

The floor is a must in my opinion, especially if you like to stand.  One problem I forgot to mention about the floor, it makes it alot heavier.  I think I am going to cut mine in half seems I am mostly by myself.  I will just keep the floor piece in front where I am fishing.  I suppose you could run the wires under the floor, but I take my boat off and store it by my house so it would just be hassle each time.  I am considering putting a quick disconnect on all the wiring so I could run it under then just leave it there.  Then plug everything in each time.  Either way, everything works great, I love this little rig.  It is cheap and easy, just the way I like it!   ;D

I have been trying to organize a club/tournament in my area for small boats, just isn't enough interest though.  Too bad, I think it would be fun.

Hello all,

i am going to buy a Harbour freight trailer (4x8 1195lb utility)for my 10e. I was wondering how everyone launches and loads thier boat? Have some ideas, but figured I would ask the folks that are doing it with that type of setup already.

Driving a 07 sierra, so I doubt I'll be able to see the little boat/trailer while towing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Put your tailgate down if there's room, and you can attach a pole to the back corner of the trailer so you can see where it is in your mirror.

I have a basshound10.2 and I have the fish finder mounted up at the bow.  Have the transducer mounted to the trolling motor.  I bought it used and the original owner had the transducer mounted on the rear of the boat and the fish finder in the middle of the seats.  I use my TM at the bow so I never really could see the FF with it being mounted there.

I second the tailgate down suggestion.  As far as launches go, I found it easiest to have a rope on the front of the boat, push it off the trailer and beach it or dock it while you pull your trailer out. Loading is the reverse when I'm alone.  If I have a buddy, I throw him the rope and have him pull me up.   I don't go to many busy boat ramps so this application wouldn't work everywhere.  having an outboard on the back would make loading/unloading much easier, it's on my list of to-do's.

There is atleast one picture in this thread of someone who is using an umbrella.  You might search the thread.....

So what are you guys using for rod storage? I've seen a few on YouTube that have a top on them to hold the rods securely. I'm concerned my 3 year old will think throwing my rods in the water will be a good idea!

A friend and I are going to set up the BR for night fishing, light bar and LED's. I want a slick install without wires hanging about. Has anyone taken a BR apart? Take the top half off, I mean. I would like to know what to expect. If I screw this up I won't have a boat this season. We're both mechanically inclined. Can we break anything? I have mounted things to the boat and drilled into it so far, without a problem

i think i remember seeing a post in here, when someone took a BR apart. If I remember, its stapled together at the seems. I've also read that folks have just fished their own wiring through and around most of the inner parts of the hull. With the self stick auto LED's out now, should be fairly easy once the wiring is run. Post a pic when done, love to see it.

Sheldon,

Check out the end of the video, "vic" has a umbrella rigged to the seat. He has some great ideas for BR mods, as many of the folks here do!

Yes,

i saw this video..the umbrella idea is fine if you don't care about cosmetics... I wanna install something that looks like it belongs.

If you don't mind a parachute with limited room.  a bimini top may be nice if your tight lining but having a top will limit you casting ability a lot. th?id=OIP.p8x7FQmJu00kWCG2Ucj7kAEsDl&w=2

Just picked a trailer at Harbor Freight, 4'x8' folding set up. Paid $259.99. Now comes the assembly!

After trying several ways to transport my Pelican from storage down to the water with out pushing or carrying I found Dynamic Boat Dollies online and decided to spend a little for convenience and man am I glad I did.

They custom build it for your exact model boat but since it's modular it ships within 48 hrs.  I had mine 4 days after ordering.  Now the one pictured is a bit big for the Pelican that is on it but I had it made for the Sun Dolphin Pro 120 with casting decks which is a little bigger and I am ordering soon.

It is all aluminum so it is strong, very light (65 lbs) and is made to be submerged in the water.  Very simple to assemble.  I wish I had done this years ago.  This particular dolly will hold up to 350 lbs.  I can easily load it myself and move with ease even up hill and the boat pictured weighs about 225 lbs with battery, trolling and gear.

Highly recommended.

I recommend loading it backwards with the trolling motor)bow) at the back of the boat.  This gives you two advantages.  First you can actually begin the loading by getting the boat started up the trailer.  Second, is that you don't have to worry about the trolling motor kitting the back of your tailgate when turning if you forget to move it back into the boat.

I bought a new Bimini top that should fit my needs.. I will take pics and post once it's installed

Woo! I made it to the end! lol.. this tab has been open for over a week, and I read every single word. Heck, I'm going to go back over it again after this post.

I got my Bass Raider 10e August, last year, and have had so much fun out of this little boat.

I bought a Minn Kota 55 lb with the largest deep cell battery I could get at the time ($150 battery at Dicks..will get specs later). Also have an 8lb mushroom anchor, that I just wrapped around my seat to hold in place. I also quickly installed a plywood deck inside after reading this thread quickly through just before purchasing the boat last year. I have never tried this boat without the floor, but from what I read last year...the floor was a must!

After reading here, I have purchased cleats for each side of the boat, to hold my anchor in place. A "Bigfoot" pedal for the TM. I have marine carpet and adhesive to lay on the plywood. Bought 2 new really nice seats for it yesterday.
Now I have to buy a push pole type of thing (sorting out what to do after reading all your posts). Thinking of mounting TM to the front and putting a rudder in the rear. I'm sick of bending my arm back to control it and now with the bigfoot it'd be REALLY good to put it in the front I think. I bought a Deeper Pro+ Sonar this winter using credit card points I had built up. Now, I need to do some type of RAM mount thing for a tablet to pair up with it. Not 100% how I'm going to attach it to the boat, but I was just thinking some braid line and tie it to the handle. Also going to add some straps to each top rail so that the poles can be "secure" a bit.. lol. Always worry about a pole going into the deep :(

Anyways, just figured I'd drop in and thank you all for this epic thread! Some excellent info in here on our little amazing rigs! :)
