Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Contrary to popular opinion, there are no Pelican Bass Raider owners out there.  It would be easier to find a unicorn.  It's a conspiracy.  Conspiracy I tell ya.:P

This one is fully decked out in camo for stealth.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

Pictures can be misleading.  By itself, you might possibly conclude that I am a Pelican Bass Raider owner.  However, you would be wrong.  That is my daughter's boat on a small pond that abuts her property.  See, I am not a PBR owner.

But, I do like it even though I use a paddle for propulsion.  No need of anything more for a pond of about two acres.

I guess I'm not either, technically. My beautiful bride paid for it, so even though it's titled and registered under my name, I guess it her boat

Dang it, I was really hoping to not have to put holes in this thing. I think I'm going to try some industrial self stick Velcro. Maybe cut some pvc pipes in half and put the Velcro around it so I don't have to put holes in it.

I just used a small bungee cord from my seat bracket to the lip on the side of the boat.. Has worked very well and is quick and easy to swap out poles fast.

Speaking of holes...when I reached out to Pelican about running wires through the hull of these boats and asked about the warranty in relation to putting holes in the boat to mount accessories they advised that putting any hole in the boat would void the warranty.  Has anyone thought twice about mounting stuff to their boat due to the warranty?  I have a bunch of stuff to mount and now I'm a bit timid to do so. I got 4 rod holders, 2 taco paddle clips and my Striker 4 base to mount somewhere.

I got to get some pics up on what I'm working on...but first I need to figure out how to put a 24"x24" solar panel in a boat...lol. Have an idea but it means that I will only be able to use it when I'm the loan fisherman.  When the son comes with me I'll have to leave it out.

I got to figure out a trailer ground issue...one side works fine and the other is ifee at best.  Tested my trailer hook up and thank goodness that is working...Gob bless the etrailer wiring harness.

When I first bought mine, I was the same way. I didn't want to drill holes into the boat at. Last season I got over it and started drilling away on it. So far I mostly used rivits made by YAKGear to attach accessories to the boat. I even put in flush mount rod holders I had to drill a ***/4 holes for those. NO adverse affects to speak of so far. If I find my posts from last year I'll let you know what page they are on so you can check it out. This year I'm adding an LED light bar up front with remote control.

I'll post pics when I get around to doing the project. I already have most of the parts

Been checking Craigslist for ages trying to find one of these. Seems like 90% of the people never have the titles and if they do they want near new prices for them. Tempted to just go to academy tomorrow and bite the bullet on a new one.

Do it, you get warranty with brand new ones. And the peace of mind that there probably won't be anything wrong with it at least right off the bat. But even if there is, it'll be coveredby that warranty. I've seen so many used ones going for new or even higher than new prices myself. Got fairly lucky with my BassHound 9.4...used but great shape and had no mods done to it and got it for @ $450 (retail new is like $1100 for them). But had to go through a couple dozen or more high priced before I found this one.

This is solid advice.

As soon as I say that I find one for $450 with a new battery, a 55lb thrust motor , and a charger. And he has the title.

I hope you have it in the back of your truck already

It is now!!

I have this Sun Dolphin Pro 120 on the way.  Should be here in a couple weeks and I can't wait to get out in it and review it.

If anyone else has the Pro 120 I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I was going to keep my Pelican Predator 103 (also pictured) but the wife says it must go.  I was going to Craigslist it but if any Bass Resource members in the Charlotte, NC area are in need of a nice boat, please send me a PM and I will discuss a "friends and family" discount.

Congrats. Let us know how you like it.

Took it out today. Caught a bunch of bass including a nice 4lber.

Ran into a problem with the trolling motor though. It worked fine at first then just stopped. I got it to work again a couple of times by jiggling the wire and moving the motor around but nothing kept it working.

Some pics of the mods I've done so far are on pages 82 and 97 of this thread

Well I finally took the time last night to clean off all the silicone caulk and used a 2 part epoxy to reseal the 4 areas that are sources of water intrusion on my BassHound 9.4 (the livewell drain plug area, the boat drain plug area, and the two spots where the manufacturer injects foam in between the top and bottom of the boat). Hopefully the epoxy will bond with the plastic like it's supposed to and won't allow water in like the silicone did. Boat got a little heavy a few times last year. Lol

Planning on hitting some strip pits with it in a couple weeks.

Ok I been using my boat dang near non-stop... Only issue I have is the aluminum seat brackets. I am just over 300lbs and they are starting to sag some. Anyone have any ideas? I may try to make some brackets out of lead pipe. I do not want to mount anything to a deck floor. I haul my boat in the back of my truck and I am alone most of the time so do not want to make it even more heavy.

Best thing to do would be to get a 50amp resettable breaker. might as well since it looks like you need to redo the wiring anyway. about $10 at Walmart and easy to install.

What is the difference between the 2 boats besides the decking on the Sun Dolphin?

Finally got a trolling motor on the way for my pelican. I picked up a 40 pound thrust minnkota from Amazons scratch and dent for $140 with free shipping. Only a few more things to get before I can get her out on the water... the wait is driving me crazy!

The Sun Dolphin is a foot longer and has much more room as the Pelican was not designed to fish standing up.  You can but it is cramped and you have to watch sudden moves or it can capsize.

The Sun Dolphin is made to fish standing and is very stable as it is reinforced inside the hull with pressure treated 2 X 6 and is foam filled.  It can fish 3 people pretty easily and you can move around with ease and safety.

It is also equipped with an automatic aerator, running lights and lots of storage as well as a cooler.

Both fine boats but the Pelican is a pond hopper and not all that comfortable to fish for extended sessions.  The Pro 120 is a true bass boat that can handle larger bodies of water but is also easy to maneuver in smaller ponds.

Ok, after a long winter of many mods and research we finally got our Bass Raiders on the water. Went to a very large lake in North Jersey and the boats operated perfectly. The 55lb trolling motors moved us around without a problem and after 6 hours all over the lake the battery appeared to remain just under full charge. Only adjustment is to the rear rudder as it kept raising a bit from its 90 degree angle but that should be easy fix.  Only caught two fish between the four of us but the season is still early. Heading back out tomorrow and really loving these boats.

I know it has been mentioned on here before but I am having issues locating what I am looking for. What are my options for trailers? I am planning on buying a new 10e in the near future and would like to have a trailer for it.
