Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Featured Replies

I live on a small 9 acre lake.  The banks are lined with riprap.  I have cleared the riprap from an area just large enough for me to drag my bass raider in and out.  Right now I just lay astroturf-type carpet over the dirt to drag the boat on, but I am trying to figure out how to avoid dragging the carpet around in the future.  I have thought about laying sand or pea gravel.  I am afraid the sand will get nasty and buggy, but then I am also afraid the pea gravel will scratch the hull over time.  Any suggestions from this intelligent group?

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

No intelligence here, lol.  The California delta is lined with rip rap in a lot of good launch areas.  I was always afraid I'd scratch a gouge in the plastic of my Basshunter.   The carpet sounds like a great idea.  But like you said, heavy and bulky.

If the launch is permanent,  I say mix it, more sand than gravel.  You will get scratches but we all have them on our boats without serious issue.  I put in where I could over the years and my hull shows it but it's still in fine shape.

If theft won’t be an issue, lay three or four pieces of pvc piping down and just slide the boat over the pvc. The pipe should be slightly longer than the boat is wide.Leave the pvc there for next time. If theft is an issue, just carry them along in your truck.

I like the general idea!  Maybe I could partially bury some 4-6 inch PVC and make it semi-permanent.  It's on my property.  What do you think?

For a pond I fish, I dug out a recessed slip. Now, I just step in step out.

Thanks

Christ2000, sorry you haven't gotten any replies.  I live in a freshwater location so I'm unable to help.  I do think somewhere on this thread, saltwater has been discussed.  Maybe do a search for it.

Salt water won't be an issue for the boat, but if your trolling motor isn't made for salt or brackish water it will be its maiden and likely FINAL voyage! Good luck.

I'm thinking of buying a 10e.  Does anyone know of someone or someplace that does the outfitting/mods?  I'll need a trailer

What mods do you want to do? Read this entire thread and watch the YouTube vids pertaining to the Bass Raider 10e. The mods are all DIY. You can do it.

Here is a good trailer: https://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lb-capacity-48-in-x-96-in-heavy-duty-folding-trailer-62648.html

I have a brand new Endura C2 50, Minn Kota Battery Box, Interstate Batteries Deep Cycle 24DC 685 Marine Cranking Amp Battery and a Bass Raider 10e.

After charging the battery over night, pressing the level button on the battery box showed full charge just before taking the boat out. With two people weighing a total of about 330#, going into a 5-10 mph wind on still lake water for about 20 minutes at full power, then maneuvering around for about 20 min on power level 1-3, the battery box showed red. We were still able to get back to the boat ramp on max power with no wind, but we assisted the motor by paddling. Upon return home, the battery box indicator was yellow - the second lowest while a volt meter reading was 11.9v.

I'm trying to reconcile the low reading on the battery box, but 11.9v on the volt meter and I'm concerned that the power drained so quickly. It seems that we should have been able to run at full power, drawing 50 amps, for 1.6 hours with a 12v DC marine battery rated at 81 amp hours.

What are your thoughts? Should I return the battery or the battery box? What is your experience with running a Minn Kota C2 50 (or 55 that draws the same amps)?

Should have gone with a deep-cycle battery instead of a 'multi-purpose' one...those starting batteries drain quickly under a constant load. Also, lead-acid batteries don't like being drawn down to under 1/2 their AH rating.

MN Fisher, thank you for your reply, but as I mentioned in my post, this is a deep cycle marine battery. Should I get a different one?

You also mentioned "685 Marine Cranking Amp" - that tells me it's a dual-purpose battery, not a pure deep-cycle.

Okay, that's good to know. Do you, or anyone else, have a recommendation for a good pure deep-cycle battery?

Wow. What a wealth of information. Thank you!

I just picked up my Pelican last night and brought her home. I went to the Bass Pro Shop looking to by a Pond Prowler but came home with a Pelican. I liked the seats better and it's a little wider (more stability) and the guy talked me into it.

I'll be fishing on a little lake I live on that is 1/2 mile long by about 50 years wide. The guy also talked me into a 30 pound thrust trolling motor when I was looking to buy a 45-55. I have not opened the box yet and I think I'm going swap it out for the bigger one. Thoughts?

Thanks again for this tread and I'm excited about doing some mods.

For some reason it does not give me that option. Maybe because I'm new?

I use a Duracell size 31 deep cycle and fish all day with my 55lb thrust endura max.

@Captain Ken The bass raider comes with the Kayak style seats now? I just bought mine with the plastic seats, ugh.

FYI - the 30lb trolling motor will be fine, but the 55lb will be better in wind and chop. Endura Max will give you better battery life too.

I took the 30 back and got a 55 Endura and now I'm taking it back to get the Endura Max. I'm glad you guys are here! Thanks!
