I recently ordered a Curado MGL 150 to pair up with my IMX PRO 843mbr, but I can't decide what to spool it up with. I intend for this to be a multi-purpose rod, throwing anything from senkos to spinnerbaits/chatterbaits to small soft swimbaits. Sorta a bring one rod and go type of situation. What would you spool it with? 30lb braid to leader when needed? Is 30lb too big for the MGL spool, even though its the 150 size?

30# braid to a leader appropriate for the technique would be the way I'd go.

I have similar setups.  They all have 12# fluorocarbon line on them.

I like my shimanos with braid to leader and fast spools with a set and forget spool tension of just enough to eliminate side to side play.  Two brakes on and start high on the external dial and work your way down.  I have daiwas for non braid and clunky baits that like to backlash.  I'm not going to start smashing down on the spool tension to slow a shimano or any other centrifugal unless I have to.  I went out of my way to get a shimano for a specific fast and free braking profile. I'm not going to spool it with a slinky then fight the line constantly with spool tension.  Braid to leader.

30# braid. No Leader.

100% 30lb braid to whatever leader makes sense for what you’re throwing. But apparently I’ma unicorn that doesn’t have 50 scary knot fails a day….. so yeah that’s just me

That's my head turner/met rod.  Primarily spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs but I'll throw a walking bait or popper on it as needed.  Lately its soft jerkbaits.  In the spring it was hard jerkbaits.  It throws a squarebill great.  It will throw a 5" unweighted senko if I have to.  My choice is 16 lb supernatural mono right now and I really like it.

 

if the rod is soft enough then 30 lb braid would do.  Though, if its too much rod (too fast action and heavy power) then you might just want a little stretch from mono.

Depends where you’re fishing. Around a a lot of grass? 30lb braid anything else 12-15lb mono would be fine

That's another thing, I recently moved and have no idea what to expect as far as fishing conditions. Used to live in Delaware fishing lots of small ponds with lots of grass so braid was almost a must. Just moved into Colorado, haven't been fishing yet but I figure braid + leader will give be enough versatility to figure it out

30lb braid to 12-17lb leader

I would use 12 pound Sufix Siege. I use that with my curado 200i on my Imx Pro MBR 903C and its awesome. 

I vote 40# braid instead of 30#. For me, 40# bites into itself less than 30# if I get hung up and have to pull a lure off something, is easier to handle for tying knots, and casts just as good as the 30# line. If you need more flex in the line, add a fluoro or mono leader.
