Winter Plastic Lures/Set Up

Featured Replies

I plan on targeting smallmouth and largemouth bass this winter using plastic lures. I’ll be fishing in the river and in ponds or lakes. I think maybe drop shot or split shot might work. I’m sure slow is the name of the game. Any suggestions or advice on technique or lures that work?

I also fish Elaztech worms shaky style all winter long.  Sometimes they want the little guy but like yesterday they didn’t and took the worm.

I start off by pitching a craw around wood, exposed brush, and submerged grass.  If that doesn't work I start going finesse with some Dingers and finesse worms on a split shot rig, or weightless depending on the wind.

I'm only any help with river smallies but a 4" yum dinger on a split shot rig is known to be a favorite of very large river smallies in my waters.

Ned rigs and lightly weighted tubes work well in winter.
