Spinning Reels, which one

Featured Replies

OK, I am looking to get a new spinning reel.  I just bought a BPS Extreme MH 7 ft. rod.  I can not break the bank, so am looking in the 50-60 dollar range at reels.

I am going to be using it mostly for light weight or weightless plastics, jigs, etc....

I have narrowed it down to the following:

Shimano Solstice SO1000FH

Pflueger President 6730X

BPS Pro Qualifier        PQX1500

Shimano Sahara  SH1500FB

Any thing good or bad about any of these???  all about the same weight, but I did notice a big diff. in the # of bearings in each one..... is that really that big a deal????

I for one like the Pflueger President. I use them and the

Pflueger Medalist a lot.

I also think you have made a great choice for the size of

the reel as well. It is not too big and bulky, but big enough

to handle business.

if u go with shimano ,get the shimano sahara for that price

only thing i would recommend is to get the 2500 size

I can't attest to the other reels, but I have a Pflueger President 2500 spinning reel and I love it! I've had it for well over one year and I've fished the heck out of it... no problems or complaints yet.

Well, if it's an option, I'd recommend returning the rod and then buying the BPS Extreme combo with a Shimano Stradic.  I have this and like it a lot!

$119 for the reel vs $139 for the combo.

If that's not an option, try the Sahara.  Got one for my wife, and it's a nice little reel.  And I think the 2500 is a better choice for a MH rod.

step up to the shimmano symetre for 79.00 and you won't be disappointed

Before the Posse wakes up let me reccomend the PFLUEGER PRESIDENT I love mine ;)

I agree with Chris at Tech. Here is the deal:

Combinations are almost always the best value and they are always "ON SALE!"

OH OH the SHIMANO SHERRIFF HIMSELF HAS SPOKEN

OH OH the SHIMANO SHERRIFF HIMSELF HAS SPOKEN

Ahhhhh.....but only after President Pflueger put his 2 cents in

Where is Team Daiwa

I have both the Pflueger President and Bass Pro Qualifier.  I really like both reels, but I would go with the Pflueger President.  It seems to be a little more sturdy reel that will last you a longer time.

I use my buddy's pflueger president, and medalist. Works great, good for the price. I have a suggestion, the mitchell 300x is nice too, around the price of the president.

there is no such thing as a president 2500 size. Go with a sahara for the same price or a symetre for a little more for a much better reel.... and they actually some in a 2500 size!

Eliminate the Solstice from your options.  They are junk.  I had one about 4 years ago, and the thing always acted up on me.  The drag system sucked, the bail sucked, everything sucked about it.  That's probably why you don't see anybody recommending that reel to you, cuz it SUCKS!

mktrout "there is no such thing as a president 2500 size ."

I stand corrected as to the Pflueger President model that I use... it is the 6740, Pflueger's 4000 series.

As to the existence of the President 2500, Pflueger lists it as the model 6725, which is classified as an ultralight spinning reel...

I can't say that Pflueger's 2500 is comparable in size to what other manufacturers call a 2500, but I can say that it does exist.

Hey hillbilly This is Muddyman Im on Brutu's Computer I dont know why MK Trout came at you like that but I stopped answering his posts He is just looking for trouble that is not what we are about on these forums Let it slide

i have a presidential and i love it.  I actually got it as a combo from bass pro on an extreme rod.  but its the best spinning reel ive used

Hey bow3022 I don't mean to blast ya but I've had 3 Mitchell 308's and 2 failed almost right out of the package. I still have one and it does cast smooth and I have caught quite a few nice fish on it. The Mitchell sounds like a meat grinder compared to my Pflueger President. I think the Mitchell's retail for 40 or $50 so for $10 more I go with the President for $60, or a Symetre or a Medalist in the $80 range.

I think no matter what reel you have their are going to be some lemons. I think a lot of people have had success with Pfluegers and I think it was MKtrout and another or 2 who had a bad one. Their have been a post or 2 against Shimano quality as well. Sometimes its the luck of the draw but I'm on my 3rd Mitchell gone bad or running noisy so I'd steer clear.

Hillbilly your reply for the record was very tactful and definately "the high road".
