Is Dobyns rods out of business?

Featured Replies

Broke a 755 Xtasy first time using it. Can not contact Dobyns. Called multiple times for a week(just get a tone). Emailed through their site and no response. Did GSM drop em?

Definitely still in business.

Had no problem reaching them about ten days ago regarding replacement of a broken rod (my fault). Sent in the part of the rod blank with the logo and less than a week later they called for my cc#. Had the rod in hand two days later.

Same great customer service I've always received. 👍

Sold to GSM Outdoors. They kept Gary Dobyns on as an employee in some capacity. He didn't really elaborate when he was speaking about it but he sounded positive about the new ownership. Only time will tell.

As I mentioned, good so far, and the two employees I dealt with had a positive attitude, the one via email did have a new gsm email address.

I have a new Champion XP at the local tackle shop now getting the second guide re-wrapped. I've had problems with guides pulling out with those rods. I sent another Champion XP strait back to Dobyns because 3 guides needed to be re-wrapped. The whole process from start to finish was very streamlined and pleasant. Dobyns supplied the shipping label. I supplied the rod tube, which I already had (so keep those tubes!). They did all the guide work at no charge. So far, all my experiences with the company (whoever it is) has been positive. My only complaint (possibly) might be quality control.

Always great when your parent company has “equity” and “capital” in its name. Shows a dedication to the outdoors.

Well, I hate to say “I told you so,” but…

Also, remember that Platinum Equity was the one that bought out Genmar (Ranger, Triton, Stratos) in 2010, then promptly sold them off 5 years later for a tidy profit. This is how the game is played, and GSM (and all their outdoor brands) will be no different.

You guys are making this out to be something it isn't.  GSM has done this before. It's nothing new, or nothing to speculate about.  They will continue to grow and expand the brands they have. Business as usual.

Dobyns is NOT out of business simply because you didn't get a response as soon as you wanted.

sheesh.  You guys are like..
