Backroad Angler
Hello, Does anyone have any experience with the 703C or 743C Rod of this line up? I have been using Dobyns for a bit, I have rods from the furry, Sierra, and champion Xp. Wondering how the extreme HP users feel about it. thanks
PBBrandon
I have a 743c and it’s a great rod. Definitely a step up from Sierras and Champ XPs. A mile ahead of Fury’s I have a shallow spool Alphas SV on mine and it makes for a killer weightless senko rod
scbassin
I have 3 743C FH with Shimano Scorpion 71 XG's on them. These are excellent rods & have good sensitivity. You can not go wrong with that rod
badfish79
I use my DX743C for finesse jigs and 1/4oz t-rigs. Its way more sensitive for bottom contact than my DC rods. I had an NRX+ 843 which was super sensitive, but the DX743 isnt far behind. They arent neck and neck, but for the cost difference, the DX is great deal.
Backroad Angler
Thank you for yalls replies, just curious do you guys have the full grip or split grips?
woolleyfooley
I have a dobyns 745 champion extreme. The old version, not the HP but I absolutely love it. I use 25lb tatsu fluorocarbon. It’s a bit on the lighter side for a mag heavy but it can handle 3/8oz Texas rigs all the up to 1 and 1/2 oz punching rigs. Hell, I’ve even thrown weightless senkos on this rig! The action is more moderate than other fast action rods which I really love. I’m planning on buying an HP to dedicate to weightless senkos, wacky rigs, light Texas rigs and other light stuff. Not sure which model to go with. I’ll definitely be following this thread. Hope my input was somewhat helpful!

I wish the DX703C came with a full grip. That would be the perfect rod to me.

Great spinnerbait rod...hated it for jigs that I intended it for. Kistler Heliums now serve almost all of my bottom contact needs, from 1/8 to 1 1/4. Super User Columbia Craw Posted August 31 Super User Share Posted August 31 I have one of each. Light, sensitive and really well balanced. Both are split grip. The 743 is my Senko rod but it can handle a myriad of baits. I throw 1/4 oz football head Hula Grubs with the 703.
Backroad Angler
I'm torn from picking the 7'4 or 7'0 for casting length now, thoughts?
PBBrandon
743 for slightly more distance, 703 for slightly better accuracy. I regularly pitch senkos in tight areas with the 743 though. Just a little easier with a shorter rod. No wrong answer there
Backroad Angler
Went for the 743C FH Thank you all for your help.

TimmyTrickWorm
I think you'll be super happy with the DX743FH. That was the first DX I bit the bullet on and its been super versatile with great balance and sensitivity. I'll throw anything from a 1/8 oz shaky head with a trick worm, to a 3/8 oz finesse jig on it. Enjoy!
Backroad Angler
Pulled an audible, after talking to staff at ALF and Dobyns, switched and went with the 744.
