As the title says, i just don't get it. From the introduction of the Chronarch ci4+ ages ago, the popularity of this platform dropped like a rock, but with the MGL version, this reel was completely forgotten. This could be a nice reel to compete with the Zillion, but instead, its a completely forgotten platform.

Its as if Shimano doesn't want to make it great again because they're worried of it erroding the aldebaran and metanium sales.

I could see them making a premium Curado line out them sort of like they did with the Tranx Curados.  Most people seem incable of putting 2 and 2 together and identifying the 200 and 150 as being curado platforms.  I could see silver curados with gold accents looking nice but I'm not sure how much appeal that has outside of those that don't like the green and black plastic accents.  I think they pulled off the 200 and 150 Tranx because "it's a Tranx!".

They could also go the trickle down route and make a cheaper version of the Metanium and Bantam with a cheaper satin black paint exclusive to the US market targeting those that pay full retail on TW.

I have 3 of the CH-101- D7's. I have never had a problem with them & do not plan to replace them with something newer. Why change something that is not broke.

I think the issue is that at its PP, whats it going to do that the curado mgl cant do for the extra 100$?  The best they can hope for is another SLX MGL vs Curado 70 situation.  They would have to add 1 or technologies to it for it to be worth it.  I would guess Chronarch MGL just doesnt sell much anymore, in comparison to other reels.  I would imagine Shimano would be on top of it. if they thought the market was there.

No problems with my gearing on my Bantam A’ s or my Metanium 100 or my shallow spool model which runs Aluminum. But to the OP, totally agree. It’s been a loooooong time coming on a redesign.

If the gearing fails prematurely, I’ll dump them and move over to the dreaded Twing 😂 likely a zillion HD. I’m not a fan of the SV myself.

An SLX can do everything a metanium can, so that's not a reason not to release a new chronarch. A chronarch is Made In Japan, and many care about that. Make an aluminum frame & handle side plate reel, that is low profile, comes with an mgl spool, and its guaranteed to be popular. But then again, it'd be competing with the Zillion, and because shimano still uses their crappy micro module gearing, it would lose to a zillion with anyone that is "in the know".

I am not a fan of SV either. Literally sold all my SV spools, and are using faster mag v/mag z spools instead.

The problem with the Chronarch is that has been too closely related to the Curado.  I have or have owned several models of both over the years and the Chronarch seemed like a heavier duty Curado but not a big step up. When the new Bantam came out, it sort of took the steem out of Chronarch MGL. Both good reels and if you throw in the Daiwa Zillion, the Chronarch gets lost behind the other two.

I would like to see it return in a 50 size, just for the fun of it.

Those are 2 completely different crowds.  SLX sells because its a great reel at a good price.  Those people dont care as much about where its made.  There are more people who are value driven vs quality and chronarch doesn't offer any inherent value over curado mgl.

I just dont see where chronarch fits anymore.  Its a good reel, but unless Shimano does something out of this world with it and keeps its price relative its not going to sell half of the units per quarter SLX MGL.  Im fairly confident curado mgl was a great move on shimanos part to put out a budget chronacrh.  The specs and build are virtually the same, but curado is just cheaper.  Its main competition is one of the best reels on the market as well, so it doesnt make sense to compete unless its a killer, which chronarch mgl was years and years ago, but not today IMO.

I dont know which one got it right, small or large teeth.  I can only go by actual results, with reels that see some serious abuse in conditions that are rougher than bass fishing.  My gosas have been beat to death and still run very smooth like all of my shimanos, save for one but, that's a bearing issue.
