Ya - Rock Bass are a Sunfish, not a Black Bass...their closest relatives are Bluegill, so they don't belong in the 'Bass' threads but in 'Other Species'.

Ahh but black bass are in the sunfish family, too!

I know that - but there's a morphological difference between black bass and 'true' sunfish. Just cause something's common name has 'bass' in it, doesn't make it a bass

Otherwise the panfish boards would have to include this little beauty cause it's called a Sunfish.

Just need a bigger pan, that's all.

Finally made it to FL after several false starts.  Called a buddy and he wanted to go fishing today, Monday, at the Rainbow River.  We got there about 11 and headed upstream.  Started fishing floating down river and caught a few small bass, my first bass of 2025.  Using T/R worms we worked our way downstream and had a steady catch.  I caught about 10 and my buddy caught some with a 4.32 kicker.  Feels good to be on the water again.

Not exactly a tackle tester and it only took me 4 1/2 months,

but I'm finally on the board for 2025.

My first:

My first three trips have produced 7, 1, and 6 bass for a total of 14. In 2024, I caught 2,044 bass. So, I'm only 2,030 bass behind last year. Plus, I haven't caught any big ones and at this point last year, I'd caught my PB. I am, however, fishing tomorrow morning at a big bass bog, so fingers crossed I can cross one big girl's eyes or finally catch more than half a dozen fish.

I piled into this monstrosity 😂 30 minutes after hitting the water for my first bass of the season. It’s my first bass since last October (season opened today).

Gim, I know it's not as big as you like, but it's a perfect specimen. Congrats, buddy! I started slow too.

I caught a pretty nice one later on so it was a successful outing.  There are better days ahead.

I wouldn't bet against you 'cause my mama didn't raise a fool.
