Red spinnerbaits

Featured Replies

Most throw the firecraw colors in lipless and chatterbaits. Anyone have much success with red spinnerbaits?

Red cranks, red lipless, red chatterbaits all work great in the spring. And still have their place the rest of the year. So i definitely think a red spinnerbait would do good, especially in prespawn which is when i catch alot of bass on red.

And if it stops working for you mid season, take the skirt off and tie or add one thats perch colored. Im sure the red accents would fit that quite well and thats something the bass snack on year round (even in places without them).

When the water has a brown tint from mud and low visibility, red as a primary color or portions of red can be effective.

Smallmouth love the Stanley Toledo Gold spinnerbait! Though no longer made, the mix of red/black/gold has been a top producer for me in Mid-Alantic rivers in the Spring.

Without resurrecting the whole “red thing” again, down here we’re in the middle of the most advantageous time of the year where a splash of red is helpful especially if I can find clear water, the shallower the better.
Pre spawn being the peak, at least for me it is.

I have only 1 red spinnerbait the Booyah  @GreenPig posted above.

Don’t use spinnerbaits that much at all because I never felt I had too

Except as mentioned

Red has been better this spring for me than the shad colors so far.  Guess the universe is telling me to try a red on my frog belly before spring is over!  Red is one of those things where when it works it works and when it doesn't it seems worthless.  When I see chocolate milk - chartreuse or red both get the call a lot!

I think it just helps the fish find it when visibility is very poor but I think there are times when red is a good match the hatch color for clear water also!

3/4 oz Booyah, #6 red colorado single spin, black skirt.  Red has been good in the early spring (50 to 55 degree water temp).  On a side note:  I can't catch crap on orange!

Water I fish is always dirty.

80% of my spinnerbaits have a red head.

One of my biggest spinnerbait bass was on an all red with tandem red willow leaf blades Strike King in March many years ago.
