I just pull the strands off so they're uneven.

I will slide the whole skirt up in the o-ring making it uneven. Picture doing thas with this kind of skirt.

I do trim a little, most of the time. There’s no method to it. I just kind of guess the way I want it to be

I trim a few depending on the the jig. The dirtier I can make it look the better. I try to choose jigs with a high stand count so it doesn't look too barren when I'm done butchering it.

1/4-1/2" below the hook.

Silicone skirts that I made are tied to the jig with  hook end of the tab long enough about 1” passed the hook bend, the forward end gets folded back. My method is make a circle thumb and index finger, hold the jig head then pass the jig head first folding the forward skirt end back towards the hook bend. I trim skirts end longer then my circled fingers, about 3/4” beyond the hook bend. Sometimes do a second trim holding the head upwards skirt hanging down and trim about 1/4” to 3/8”at an angle so the center strands are longer then the top and bottom strands. The result is more flare when the jig is falling down through the water column.

I think that out of the box they are overdressed.

For jigs and vibrating jigs hold them upside down and trim them so that they extend only just beyond the hook. The skirt ends up with a nice flaired shape. It also helps the vibrating jig get that erratic darting motion that they don’t have right of the pack.
