Do new plastics start drying out as soon as you take them out of the package?

I want to pre-rig some new plastics on the hooks but it would be about 2 weeks head of time. Plastics like Keitech Easy Shiners, Zman SwimZ's, Rabid Baits Fox Tail, and Rapala Crush City swimjigbaits.

But I wonder if I open the packaging and pre-rig them 2 weeks to a month in advance if the plastics will dry out?

I do know to keep the Zman plastics away from the other plastics because of melting together.

Thanks in advance.

Not that I have ever seen.  I have several dozen plastics that have been out of the package for at least 2 years.

Plastics that are coated with scent or oil like the keitech squid scent will dry out and lose the nice stink.

If you live anywhere damp/humid salted plastics will start to leach some salt to the surface. In extreme cases that leached salt/moisture can rust hooks.

All that said I leave baits rigged constantly without issues. I have a rigs that have had baits on them for over a year, jigs sitting around with trailers etc.

Nope. Two weeks is nothing. I've had baits rigged wayyyy longer than that without losing effectiveness.

I've never " unrigged "  except for Elaztech and rods stay in rod locker, no problem.

I wouldn't know.  My plastics always end up snagged on the bottom as soon as I take them out of the package.

That's a good choice. I left a elaztech Ned bait on a jig head over the winter and when I looked at in the spring, it had completely eaten away the hook.

It was a Zman Ned jig and Ned bait. The whole bend of the hook to just past where it exited the bait was completely rotted and fell apart in my hand. I learned not to leave them setup for extended times.

I'm curious why you need to pre-rig 2-4 weeks ahead of time? Why not a day or two before?

The plastic will be fine. I'd be more worried about your knots. I retie all my knots if something has been tied on for more than a couple days (assuming its fluoro or mono).

How are those TRD's not warping your box?  Is it because it's a flambeau?  My plano 3701 started warping fast.
