New Zillion in '26?

Featured Replies

Should be.  I'm thinking it will be the '24 Tat 100 frame without the dimple on the thumb rest.  That would be noticeably smaller, and hopefully get weight down in the low 6oz range.  Will it have a zero adjuster or will they make that spot an oil port like the new steez?  What say you?

I've been called that before, lol.  The '16 Zillion and '17 Tat shared a frame, so not unlikely.

Yeah.   I’m just bugging you.  I wouldn’t be upset if the new zillion was the new tatula frame.   I really like the new tatula 100 a lot.   It’s very well made.  Comfortable to hold and just works dang great.    So if your prediction is correct.

I'm afraid if they follow past model introduction trends, it will be a down-graded Steez, which means 32-mm spool, plastic clutch thumb bar, and replace one worm-shaft ball bearing with a bushing.

It will also cost more than current Zillion.

I think the new Zillion would be a new design, ready in 27-28. They haven't milked out enough of the current Zillion yet - we have only seen a couple of variants. There'll probably be a limited version of current Zillion in 26 though, or a 10-speed one.

The Steez SV started getting 'finesse-y', and the Steez A became the workhorse Steez.  I would be surprised if the Zillion went with the 32mm spool, but I was surprised when they decided to lose the spool tension.  So who knows...

Does the current steez a2 use a metal clutch thumb bar? @bulldog1935

There's no way any stock thumb bars on daiwa/shimano is made out of metal.

Both the Calcutta TE 300 and 400 were and my late 90’s Daiwa Millionaires were.

Nothing in the modern day market does that I know of.

My 2016 Steez, 2018 Ryoga, and my 2023 SLPW Zillion all have metal clutch thumb bars.

I didn’t know the SLPW had a metal thumb bar, I shoulda ordered it. Oh well, I ordered another 22 HD 1000.

They're not metal. No company is gonna add weight on a metal thumb bar.

I remember arguing with a person in the youtube comments about the thumb bar of the original ryoga, the guy wouldn't even want to hear about it not being made out of metal. It's just plastic coated with a finish that is similar to beadblasted metal. I also have a thumb bar from the 2018 ryoga that i bought to see if it would fit on my z2020 (z2020 thumb bar sux), and it's plastic just like on the original ryoga. All of these reels use plastic thumb bars.

So why did you mention the plastic clutch thumb bar as a downgrade from the current steez? I’m confused.

My LIN 10 does but that could be part of the Megabass treatment to the Ryoga.

Is it a barrel shaped thumb bar like the monoblocks? If so, this is the only metal thumb bar around. And i've never had either reels, so i am not 100% on it, but it does look metal to me.

They better not, the current Zillions are perfect lol

Yep.  Same as the bonoblock I used to have.

The top of the hood being plastic kills the reel being perfect. Plastic engine cover and zero adjust collar is also an eye sore. The plastic service port has no reason to exist on a reel of this caliber either.

I dont ruminate over my Zillions.  I just cast and unhook fish, let them go.  Never noticed a plastic service port...and engine cover?  what's that?  what's the engine?  (me?  I'm the engine, no?)

as for a new model in 2026?  quite possible..since I plan on walking into a store and buying one or two in Yen.  usually the new model comes out right after my purchase.  (looking at you - NEWPORT VESSELS!!..looking at you!)

Daiwa calls that part an engine cover.  They usually use it as part to add color and detailing on a reel.  Strange to see one added but be flat black on a silver reel.
