Fishing camera

Featured Replies

Do you use a camera that isn't your phone?  I want to get a point and shoot camera just for fishing.  Had a canon s500 (5 megapixel) back in the early 2000's that took excellent pics.  Any recommendations?

are you looking for something that it waterproof and how big do you want to go?

Personally, I use my phone.  A newer iphone will take pictures that are just as good as a point and shoot now and it is easier to get the pictures back off to where you want to use them.  If the reasoning is that you don't want to risk your phone (or don't have a phone with a good camera) then fair enough.  The olympus tough series (TG) is a waterproof camera, very toughly built, and takes great pictures above and below the water.

I used a Casio with a dive case for years until I began to use my Iphone a couple of years ago. It took very good pictures and had timed exposure and 3X zoom.

While doing float trips, I don’t trust that I won’t drop my iPhone over the side while taking a picture. It’s waterproof, but it doesn’t float. I’ve got an Minolta. Takes good pics, can get wet and if I lose it, I’m only out 70 bucks.

i would be remiss if i didnt chime back in to say:  doing it over again today, i would not buy a GoPro.   i would get a competitor's version.  GoPro has that circling the drain vibe going now.

the selfies are fun.

In case anyone is wondering, iPhones do NOT float.

Don't ask me how I know.

I use the DJI Osmo Action 4. It's been pretty good. Doesn't overheat easy like the gopro, quality is good, and it was sale.

Currently I have 6 GoPro's I think.

Two are the current version which operate OK

and several from past versions that are in various levels of operation.

While not perfect they are IMO reasonably dependable.

My biggest grip is video operation in HOT conditions.

They overheat and it's been an on going deal since - well inception I suppose.

That said, I have been fortunate enough to capture some life time memories

in both video & pictures from that video.

So I can not totally hate on them.

We got rid of all our Cannon SLR’s and compact travel cameras because the new iPhones camera’s are excellent quality photos and video’s.

Fishing alone a GoPro is ideal.

I use my phone but not ideal. I have been eyeing the Olympus TG-6. I don't know much about it but our videographer at work says it's great for those worst case scenario times.

Yeah...my new sansung takes amazing pics, but its $1500.  I'd like another Canon compact I think...something I wouldn't cry over if I drop it in the lake.  Gonna bargain hunt.
