G loomis 783c cheaper equivalent

Featured Replies

Does anybody have any recommendations? Asking for a buddy. My conquest and other buddies 783c mbrs are fantastic but another buddy was looking for something more Tatula cork pricing. Also, it seems like they raised the pricing and went to split (womp womp) grips on the Tatula and they don’t have something near that short

I have a Jackall Revoltage II 6'9'' Light for BFS soft plastic. It's a really nice made rod but it seems this line has become hard to find. In that line up they have a 6'6'' M+ and if it's like mine, it will have a multi taper blank. It has a fast tip with a softer middle.  Regular retail, they run $350 but I purchased mine when The Hook Up Tackle was running a 20% off sale. So for $280, it has a JDM feel but it's not too flashy. It is a split grip though.

Sounds like a cool stick

I'm a huge fan of Major Craft Days, they are by far the best bang for the buck I've come across.  They come in right around $155, eva foam and split handle though if that's your buddy's deal breaker.

The 6'9 MH/RF is probably what would be appropriate for a fan of the 783/mbr, but the 6'9M/F (2 piece only) is also a contender with a quicker tip to backbone feel.  To me these sit just under 2018 poison adrena in terms of sensitivity but I like their actions just a tiny bit more.

What about a GCX  MBR model 783 or 843?

Erbody says the gcx is trash. I did find the alx zolo Mitch though.

I have a few Loomis MBR rods including the 783 in IMX pro, and a 782 in GCX.  It’s a whole separate topic that has been discussed before here,  but don’t downplay the GCX too much. It gets some hate but I don’t mind the GCX at all. Buddies have them too and like them. Just have to have your expectations set that you are not getting higher end Loomis rod performance at that price point. But still a very nice rod that gets the job done.
The MBR is so versatile and nice that to me If it came down to having an MBR taper or not personally I would absolutely get the GCX.

other option is used. I have found an MBR 784C and some others over the years. keep an eye out they do come up at decent prices for the higher end stuff

on the hand, if your buddy is like me and knows what he wants now, better to save up and just get it at the start.  Expensive road to trade up in the end !

ALX Zolo Mitch 6’6” MF is very close to GLX 783C.

Tom

PS, call Alex and ask him what he recommends.

Have always wanted to check out a GCX just to get an MBR but the negative comments have always scared me off.  Never understood what could be so bad about them.

Compared to an IMX and up they are not a fair comparison, and when benchmarked against those models no doubt GCX gets a bad name.  Are there similar or better rods for less money? Probably.  But I am familiar with Loomis Rods of all levels and I can say I do like my GCX is all.  Don’t rule them out they are often sold out and relatively popular in my area of Ontario anyway.

For a budget rod that is similar to mbr actions, I'd recommend Dobyns Sierra 683. Both the power and action are very close to mbr 783, it has a full grip, it's perfectly balanced and quite sensitive for the price, and you can often find it on sale for around $100.

i dont know about that particular model but i do have a zolo dragger that is nice. its got a softer action so i like it for heavy football heads etc.

The Zolo Mitch was specifically designed to skip senkos under cypress trees at Santee cooper I believe
