😢

He was a fantastic 2nd baseman.

The Cubs were a fun team along with Andre Dawson and the legendary Harry Caray.

I go back to Glenn Beckert

(Chicago guys…Remember him?)

He was called a “Utility Infielder” but his best years was at 2nd base.
He often was compared to Johnny Evers of Tinker to Evers to Chance fame

(And No, I’m not that old)

Then comes Sandberg..

The best of them all

He was often called a shallow right fielder with a rocket arm, nothing got past him.

He was that good

Happened to have some training in Chicago St Patty's Day weekend in 2002 and a group of us decided to get a steak at Harry Caray's steakhouse. Waiter sat us at our table and asked us to be respectful of the table next to us. Looked over and it's Ryne friggin Sandberg. He couldn't have been nicer and carried himself like he was just another guy having dinner with some buddies.

Evening got crazier when halfway through dinner in walks Bruce Weber and the Salukis to a standing ovation in the restaurant after upsetting Texas Tech in the first round and just before upsetting Georgia in the second. Saw more sports "celebrities" in one night in Chicago vs half a century living in CA.

RIP 23

One of the worst trades in MLB history was the Phillies trading him and Larry Bowa for Ivan DeJesus......he was always a classy guy and a top notch 2nd baseman.
