Older Bass Boats Question

I am part of an old Tracker page on facebook and I see lots of boats that do not appear to have rod lockers. What did folks do with their rods on a boat like this?

Good question.

I imagine they strapped them down somewhere. The Crestliner I fished out of growing up when I was younger did not have any rod locker storage. We used rod straps on both sides near the gunnel to store them.

I have no rod lockers, just lay them in the boat. My front deck is also shorter than any fishing rod so there’s nowhere to strap them. I do have vertical rod holders on either side of the center console but the main rule in my

boat is please for the love of god don’t put any rods in the vertical rod holders. They get smacked every single time, and when you walk by the console the lure sticks in your pants

I found some horizontal rod holders at Cabela's years ago...mounted them on the sides.

Could hold 6 rods in my old Rich Line. Held the rods very well, even when trailering.

That’s exactly what I did when I had a Richline 16’.

long ago before the bassboat we fished out of a 14' mirrocraft with a 25 on the back.  No trolling motor for a bit, then a transom mount for a while.  Rods laid down on the front or rear thwart and the reels hung down.

My boat (89) has a rod locker, but it just barely fits 6’6” rods. I have to keep the 7 footers on the deck. This reminds me, I need new Rod Savers.

My Tracker had some plastic/foam snap in holders on the side - held 4 or 5 horizontal, as long as they were 6’ or less.
