Anyone else notice the price increase at digitaka? Daiwa reels have definitely gone up. I can’t remember prices of other brands, does anyone know if they’ve gone up as well?

If I’m not mistaken the prices went up in the USA as well.

The complication and annoyance is in the brokerage fee couriers are charging. Form CN23, which I described on the First Two pages of this thread, includes the steel- and aluminum-derivatives calcula

  • @torm - thanks, identified that JLS ships by UPS.  Aug 1 is when de minimus exemption disappeared, and all couriers backed-up with paper trail.   I imported two rods at the beginning of September

Yep - example: USDM price for Miravel spinning reels was $129...now it's $145.

Inflation is hitting everywhere.

I’m going to add another example to the one I quoted above. I’ve been eyeballing the Cashion Z2 rods since spring when they were $130.00 and they are now $150.00. I will say though as @bulldog1935 & others have pointed out it’s still cheaper to buy JDM currently as per the above example from @MN Fisher the same reel in Japan is currently $96.00 for a Shallow spool 2000 size which I did buy from Japan well before the tariffs went into effect.

I have seen other times where people were charged the wrong tariff rate because an item was classified improperly or customs mistakenly charges the wrong rate.

Which is part of the issue with the whole thing. Customs was never meant, designed, or staffed to handle this volume of duty fees. With such broad sweeping implementation there's no hope of them properly implementing these ever-changing tariff rates especially on grey-area products. So we the consumer suffer the errors, like the ones people have talked about in this thread. It's super frustrating. Imagine going to do your taxes and the IRS told you that you actually owe 70% this year but couldn't tell you why you just have to pay it.

So unfortunately on products that utilize materials that have one rate but "should" fall under another when they are fully manufactured there's going to be continuing confusion and mistakes. Throw in all the legal battles surrounding this and I feel for all the companies that have to try and keep all of this straight.

It is a nightmare for a small business that imports stuff.
