Last decent day in the foreseeable future

It is 30° out and supposed to get to mid 40s with wind below 20 mph. The next 2-3 weeks are supposed to be cold with ice and snow so I am on my way to Stockton for a while.

Good luck.

I think we're pretty well frozen out here in New England. Hopefully we'll get a February thaw.

We arrived at 9:39 to west wind of about 10 mph. The air was 37° and the water was 42°. We went to our old standby spot. It is about 1/2 mile of rocks and ledges. I got 5 on the Ned and my neighbor got 3.

We headed up lake and started hitting our rocky areas. Most of them only gave up a lmb or 2. As the day progressed the wind increased as usual and we had 2-3 foot rollers slamming us the rest of the day. I managed to catch 8 more fish. Of my 13 9 were lmb and 4 were smb. I wound up with 6 keepers to 4#. I will take that for a windy January day. I only caught fish on the Ned.

Very impressive for those conditions. What was your Ned Rig setup?

Me too. However, with my new drysuit and my new, stable kayak, I'm excited to fish some cold water.

Temper your expectations @Swamp Girl . Cold water bass are notoriously difficult to catch when compared to targeting them in warmer water.

Yesterday I had 3 setups rigged Ned: Gloomis bronzeback 6’11” custom with Curado bfs, 8# fluorocarbon and 1/16 oz open hook TRD; Ark rod 7’6” with Curado bfs, 8# fluorocarbon and 5/32 oz Midwest finesse weedless TRD; and 7’1” custom acid wrap rod with Curado 70, 8# fluorocarbon and 1/8 oz Midwest finesse weedless TRD.

I had a green pumpkin TRD on each setup. The wind and water depth determined which weight I needed to use in order to get the bait down where it could tick the bottom.

This is a Midwest finesse jig with a specialty Victory hook.

Oh, I know. I got some last spring that were so cold they hurt to touch and they hit ever-so lightly. However, I caught my PB in cold water, so that tugs at me.

It's time to start cleaning reels.
