This thread seems like an appropriate time to share something with everyone. In 1979 a fellow Iowan, Rick Taylor, wrote a book titled "Guide To Successful Bass Fishing". At the end of the book he p

My Border Collie will be watching for Phil; if she has a successful hunt I won't have to feed her for 2 days.

With the warmup this weekend I'm having a tough time deciding whether to go ice fishing or heading down to the driftless area for some fly fishing..

We officially have open water here again. Had to add the rods, measuring board, and spare baits back to the truck last night in case of an "emergency".

I'm happy for you, Clayton. Got get 'em!

Sadly, I drove to my property, hoping to walk down to the water, but found a wall of snow blocking my way. I put up two green and white "Private driveway" signs, but that didn't work. So, I ordered a "Do not put snow here." sign. I expect they'll bury it beneath the next snowfall with their snowplow.

We were in the single digits this past weekend. Ice is a foot thick at this point. Even the Great South Bay is frozen which is salt. Not sure our lakes will melt before March.

A good freeze tends to renew a lake, so the prespawn bite should be fire.

People have been ice fishing on the Charles river and even some of the brackish tidewaters here hoping for a unicorn...a striper through the ice. It's been forever since that was doable. Seen some pictures of a few guys getting them. Very sketchy but it's been so cold this year it's opened the opportunity.

But I always look forward to spring, those first few weekends in April/May where the water creeps into the 50s finally and we get a nice warm front with some wind really gets those fish moving shallow and I can usually call my shot when it aligns right.
