LED tail lights

Featured Replies

So sometime ago somehow I broke one of my taillights. So I finally decided to order a new light thinking that it was a LED light. Nope, it wasn’t so now I’ll have to replace the other taillight with a LED one…Rats🥴

The advantage LEDs have are that they don't get warm like traditional bulbs. If you fish in the warm summer time, the rapid change in temperature can short out the non-LED versions when you back in/out of the water with the trailer.

That’s why when I’m prepping to launch I unplug my trailer lights and don’t plug them back in until I’m done loading and securing the boat.

I used to do the very same before I had a trailer with LED lights. Unplugged the electrical connection to the truck every time out of habit.

I've run LEDs for over 15 years with zero fuss. My backup lights on my trailer are bright white LEDs and certainly do help at ramps or pond banks with no illumination.

@GreenPig , guess you are hired to re-wire mine! Currently I have brake and both blinkers but no running lights. The 4 flat pig tail of truck reads voltage on all but the brown wire. I skinned back the insulation upstream of the 4 flat connector and no voltage there either on the brown . Thinking I may have to hire this one out as there are lots and lots of wires and connectors between there and the truck battery.

I HATE boat trailer lights

No sir! Beyond charging or changing batteries, I'M DANGEROUS. I was a Jet engine mechanic and to my brain, wiring looks like a bowl of spaghetti. My wife enjoys wiring so I fetch tools, strip wire, and help. She did change it to a 7 pole plug, so I use an adapter for trailers with 4 pole wiring.

Ok well she’s hired

She's expensive. Her last wiring job(my boat) cost me a tractor.
