Tatula X review... The Tatula 100/Elite is over!!

Featured Replies

Seriously don't buy a Tatula if it isn't the X. PERIOD. The X is absolutely phenomenal in every way for its price point. The Hyperdrive does eliminate some of the slop the non Hyperdrive reels have. It's not Micro Module good but its way better than it should be at 150 bucks and I would recommend it over the SLX XT every day of the week because it easily outcast my SLX XT. If you can catch it on sale for less than 150 buy 2. I was able to absolute bomb casts with it. It is way smoother than my older non Hyperdrive Tatula 100s. Its so good that I would say the next logical step up from this reel is the JDM Zillion. My thoughts the whole time I used it was Daiwa has just made all other Tatulas irrelevant. It's that good. I would honestly say unless your budget starts at 200 bucks or is less than 150 buy the Tatula X. If you only have 125 wait for when it is on sale.

My reason for the title of this thread is that all Tatulas do not feature double support for the pinion gear. You have to go to the Zillion for that. Knowing that, look at the Tatula X specs vs the rest of the Tatula line and try and justify any of the other Tatulas. The X features the LC spool and not the SV but to me that is not a deal breaker at all. Plus the X has the old Tatula 100 or Steez A2 design for the frame. I'm sorry but I can't get past the new Tatula 100 frame. It looks like Marie from Everybody Loves Raymond sculpted it.

@CaughtMeABiggun I really enjoyed reading all of your reviews and although I’m not in the market for any of the reels I will say now I’m interested in handing a Tatula X. Also I literally laughed out loud reading the Everbody Loves Raymond reference, how they got away with that episode still astounds me😂🤣😆

I feel personally attacked, and you're turning my tatula dreams into nightmares!

Kidding aside I love my 3rd gen tats, and outside of the steez ct they may have the best ergos (for my hands) of any reel I've owned or used, looks be da*ned. I also have tat elite spools for them turning them into bonafide bombing machines. I was lucky enough to pick them up about two years ago pre-tariff for less than $120 each. If I did not have these the X would be very intriguing.

I doubt I'll get rid of my old Tatulas (that would be too expensive), but I did buy an Tatula X last week. Hopefully I'll get to try it out one day next week. I'm hoping I'm as impressed with it as Eric 26!

My apologies if I misled anyone as I DO NOT own a Tatula X. I am also in no rush to sell what I have which includes a couple different Tatulas with my most current being the last generation Tatula 100 which I really do like.

I personally don't like how these frames feels like. To me, its the new 2024 Tat frame or nothing.

Since you're not averse to changing your username, as you've done before, please change it again but this time to WetBlanket. Gee whiz, man.

Bravo, Man. Good sense of humor!

I saw the Tat X at BPS. Appears to be a Tat 100 without the dimple in the thumb rest, and has 2 less bearings for $149 vs $199. Not bad

Are they sturdy enough for frogging? I picked one up for it but water still cold and I haven't tried it out much yet.

Also dont the 150/200 tatulas have alumium frames AND side plates and the X just has the frame?

Yes. I beat my Fuego CTs for years frogging. Still going strong.

Yes, a plastic side plate like the Fuego, but with hyperdrive gear cut. It should be more than fine.

The Fuego CTs are my workhorse reels. I remember when I could routinely get them on sale for like 70 bucks 😢, now closer to 120 unfortunately. I think when I go to replace the next one it will probably be with a Tatula X.

I forget what I paid for my Tatulas. I have a Gen1 Type R, Gen1 Type R Limited Edition and an older SV103HL (don't know which version). Purchased a 'blem' Elite figuring I wouldn't mind a scratch or two at the price it sold for. Turned out to be defective inside. Have yet to send it out for repair. Not sure if the Limited Edition one will every get used. Too pretty. love4

I like the looks of the original Type R. Despise the looks of the CT Type R. Sometimes surface beauty overrides function. Doesn't happen often for me but it does in this case. Just like I dislike white and yellow rods.

Share some pics. Here’s my Type R with its cousin the Cabelas Arachnid. Sorry the photos aren’t a bit better. I got the Daiwa for $99.00 brand new in box from a store that found it while cleaning out their warehouse.IMG_0327.jpegIMG_0328.jpeg
