Zillion TW HD 2022

Featured Replies

Anybody have this reel?

I’m curious how this compares to say the “regular” sized Zillion or Steez.

Is it much bigger, size and weight?

Can it handle a 3/8 oz bait or is it really meant for bigger stuff?

Any input would be great.

THANK you!

Its the same size as a standard zillion. Weights a bit more than the JDM zillion because of brass gears. There are no 100 size reels out there that can't handle 3/8oz. Unless you're using thick fluoro, you can easily cast 1/4oz on it.

Between the three reels mentioned, it's by far the best bang per buck out there.

Hey, I just typed all that.

Same size, half-oz heavier because of the brass gears.

I have the SLPW-Z, based on '22 HD, and supposed to have an improved clutch.

HD comes with MagZ spool, vs. SV Boost on '21 Zillion SVTW.

Thanks for the comments.

I was comparing this to the Steez A II.

Might just flip a coin. lol

I have 2 of them. Swapped spools with a SV in one of them on my pitching setup. Really nice reels. I also just bought 2 Steez A2’s. So far I haven’t noticed much difference performance wise between the Steez and the Zillions.

Thanks all, I've FINALLY decided I'll get the Zillion.

It will look better on the rod anyways. LOL

Digitaka here I come.

RIP JLS. I miss you and your free lures!

Let me know how you like it. I love the look of the black on the zillion frame, which is partially why I bought my silver wolf.

Will do!

I bought a couple of items (reels) a little bit ago so I'll share my thoughts on both of them.

What happened to JLS?

tariff stuff, digitaka is a more seamless experience

Ooooh!! Ok. Doesn’t affect me in canada. I thought I missed something.

The zillion HD feels like a tank compared to the standard zillion at least to me and that's a good thing in my eyes for my heavier jigs and frogs. It could be the much beefier handle. It can send almost a full spool of 50lb 832 when I'm frog fishing. Very fun reel to fish and it makes you feel under control when pulling them out of the slop.

Not trying to derail but I was planning on using mine on a swimbait rod in a pinch until I pick up another reel. Baits up to 4oz or maybe a bit over. How to you think it will handle?

Thanks!

It will handle 4oz baits fine, lots used the Steez A to cast the klash9, but a 200 size reel will certainly feel better.

I’m curious as to how long the clutch would last throwing 4 ounces, so if you do, please report your experience.

I’ll report back. Ideally i wouldn’t use it for too long. Only a couple months until I figure out the best way to get a swimbait reel from Japan.

For throwing that much weight on 100-size reel, I would swap-in MagZ Boost spool to get the largest-mass purple inductor so you need less (maybe none) end-tension to start that much weight:

Btw, thumbing the spool backwards as you open the clutch will reduce the 4 oz preload on the clutch contact.

Thanks. I’m going to be very gentle with it. Mostly lob casts. I know if I blow it up mid cast it’ll probably cook the reel with that much momentum from 4+ ounces so I’ll try to avoid that at all costs.

I throw 4 oz routinely on bench Ambassadeur with 6-pin centrifugal.

Purple MagZ Boost inductor is the closest start-up brake Daiwa offers to this.

Mid cast, that much weight should carry itself over the hump with no problem, again making MagZ Boost the best choice for distance. Boost changes the start-up curve, so less speed is removed from the spool, giving long, effortless distance.

Fixed linear mag on my Ambassadeur above was set casting 1/4 oz on short rod, and it's everything I need for 4 oz through mid-cast on 14' rod.

MagZ should work the same, set mag scalar casting light end, and purple inductor takes care of heavy start-up.
