bladed jig Rod

100% sure I stand alone on this.

but the MB BanderSnatch is outstanding for me. soft tip, great sensitivity so I can feel even smaller bladed jigs vibrating at the end of the line. when I feel the blade stop because it hits grass, the rod backs that soft tip up with some backbone to yank it thru.

it is also great at working lipless and crank thru grass. same reasoning.

soft tip sends them way downrange on those far cast to far targets.

My bladed jig rod is a NFC blanked Kistler KLX MH/MF I've had forever.

The reel I mount on it always has 12# fluorocarbon on it.

I've got a few setups. If I'm skipping under docks and sitting in my kayak I'll use a 6'9" MH Kistler Helium. Any other time I'm using a 7' 2" MHF Expride. I'm usually straight braid or braid to flouro leader.

line first. I kept breaking off jackhammers so I had to up from 14# fc flouro to 18 # shooter.

Reel is always a 7:1 since I’m pull through thick grass.

Here is where I’ll add a decision model and you can choose your own adventure.

If you want better feel of the blade vibrate

Dobyns dc xp 734c

High end model: megabass p5 Daemos. Not the destroyer USA only p5

Better Landing ratio but less feel of the blade.

Dobyns champ 735 cb glass.

I use 3/8 oz with spunk shad usually.

In a pinch I use my Megabass destroyer p5 tequila Baccarac as well. Not the best but it works.

I have a rod dedicated only to bladed jigs. I'm not a rod collector so this should tell you how much I love the bladed jig. It's a Duckett Terex in MH. A very parabolic rod with a moderate tip. Casting distance with a 1/2oz bladed jig is ridiculous. I scare myself sometimes. It's got good sensitivity and I use Sufix 832, which only adds to the sensitivity. I fish these through the thickest stuff and the braid allows me to restart the thumping with just a quick pop of the rod. Hooksets with the braid are just a sweeping motion even with the moderate tip. I'm certain Boyd was thinking of the bladed jig when he developed this rod. And, like all things perfect, it was discontinued many years ago. I wish I had a couple of back-ups. A rod not identical but very similar is the Jacob Wheeler series.

I am using a KK Speed Demon 7'0 M/F with straight 50# braid(small diameter). This is a pretty old rod. At the time it was labeled as a bladed jig rod. Probably should upgrade, but it still works for me.

I feel like I have to highlight some good answers already given.

If I could choose again I’d try the most popular 1/2 oz bladed jig rod which is expride mh glass or the Dobyns champion xp 736 cb glass.

This is for where folks feel like keeping the fish pinned and landed is most important. Most of the time you’re not going to miss that bite anyway.

This is if you want a specialized set up.

If you want versatile. Really any 7’2 to 7’6 MH rod will do great.

How do you feel about a half ounce bladed jig on the Daemos?

I'm starting to think I need a tweener rod that has a little more power than a 73MH Adrena but a little softer (and longer) than the P5 Super Destroyer.

I can speak to 3/8 bladed jig bladed jig. I’ve been throwing that exclusively. I think it works well, it can likely handle 1/2 as well the rod is pretty strong. I traded off a bit of bend and fish landing ability, I’ve lost a few fish but I have successfully landed an 8#er and the rod handles no problem. It’s the most sensitive of all the blades jig rods I’ve used, the blade feedback is very strong and of course the p5 rods are very light. I would caution on the lock nut and the trigger is tiny. Both can be deal breakers for some people. It is fine for me.

I have quite a few rods that will comfortably throw and preset bladed jigs. But there’s almost always one tied on to a Dobyns 736CB Glass. Best of both worlds. It’s composite and has the right flex to keep fish pinned, but is a heavy power rod so you can muscle them out of the grass. Excellent load for casting. Great stick. Traditionally I’ve fished straight Fluoro on it, but right now it has 832 to a leader. You really feel each individual thump of the blade with the braid.

I run straight 30lb braid with the 736CB Glass and (3/8,1/2,3/4) chatterbaits. The rod has enough flex to act as a "shock absorber" for the braid. Never had an issue with it and you can feel every tic and thump on braid.
