Big Game

Recommended Posts

Would like to know what others think about Big Game line? I have been using XT, but seems to go bad after about six months, and I always store my line in a cool dark desk.

I 've fished with Big Game for over a decade and a half and I 'm not planning to change to another line in the or distant future.

The shelf life, according to Berkley is 3 years with proper storage.  That is for all the Trilene mono's.  You might have gotten an old spool.

I got some bad line a couple years ago, I called them and got replacement spools for everything I owned, free of charge and they didn't require retun of the old stuff... just asked me to throw it away.

Big game is good line but I like XT better, BG seems to get spool memory way faster for me.

Ill tell u what iv tried so many differnet monos out there from berkley, stren, shakespear, yozuri, silver thread, by far the most reliable one is big game, im  a braid person but if i have to go back to mono berkley Big Game would be on all my reels ;D

I used for a little while and it wasn't bad, it had a few memory issues but then again there isn't a fishing line out there that doesn't. However I have gone back to good ole Stren original for all my mono needs and I love it! I have also now started using P-Line Evolution, which is classified as a "copolymer" but whatever it is I know it's not braid, it's not fluoro, and it is awesome.

I found a 1000 yd spool of 14 lb XT in my garage this spring that is at least 11 yrs old.  I spooled some up on my worm rod and had ZERO problems with it all summer.  I took at least 100 fish up to 3.5 lbs on that line and no issues at all.  Still on one of my reels right now in fact and I'm just going to use it up next year.

Big Game is ok line and cheaper but XT is better all around in my opinion.

I used Big Game and XL for years.  Big Game is good line at a great price.  I had a spool of it that kept breaking on me and decided to see what else was out there.  The search keeps going and I have not gone back to Big Game since.

I've used Big Game for 20 years now and like Raul I feel no need to change; some say it has memory problems but I change my line after every other trip; I'll go through two 900 yard spools a year

Try a spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid (#12) or Hybrid Ultra Soft (#6 for spinning tackle).

You will not be disappointed and you will NEVER go back to Big Game, XT or XL.

Been there and done that.

I tried 6lb on two spinning reels at the beginning of the year and like it a lot but it is hard to find around here in Indy.  Gander Mountain is the only place that I have found it and they want around $10 for 300 yards.  I plan on getting some more of it when I need it.  Right now I have about 3000 yards of regular YoZuri Hybrid to go through first.

I haven't had a problem with XT and still use it.If you still have line left after 3 years you ain't fishing enough. I go through a small spool of line every 6 months.Tie and retie often...stuff ain't the most abrasion resistance but with proper caution you won't have problems.I think this goes with all lines out there.

I stay away from mono line in clearance bins...that right there tells me the line was probably sitting on the shelf too long and now they gotta get rid of it fast.

I like to use that mono in the clearance bins as backing.  I have a spool of big game that I am still trying to go through.  I like it alot.  I am just a big Berkley fan I guess.  Besides cheap mono for backing and Power Pro, I only use Berkley.  As soon as I go through this Power Pro, I am going to give Fireline a try, I have not tried any yet.
