Line for jigs

Featured Replies

What kind of line do you use for jig fishing? Are braided lines good for this application?

yes braid works very well for jigging.  I use if for heavy cover.

Most of my jiggin is with 15lb flourocarbon.

Fluro or braid. Fluro in clear and/or deep water, or for  abrasion causing cover. Braid for vegetation.

I have 17# Bekley 100% fluoro on my worm/jig rod.  I have also used 17# gamma copoly in the past.  I have also used braid (powerpro and suffix) but it's not my favorite type of line.

Let's see...

Jig = Baitcaster

Baitcaster = #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft

So...

Jig = #12 Ultra Soft

8-)

20lb Pline CXX

50lb braid / 20lb fluoro leader

50lb braid / 15lb fluoro leader

depends on the situations.

I use 12# Vanish

x 2 - but I go lighter (fishing for smallies here) and fill my 2500 Symetre with 8# test.

I'm using 30# PowerPro with a 25# Gamma Fluorocarbon leader.

I like fishing 65# Powerpro in grass, real heavy cover, or very muddy water.  But I am starting to find myself throwing 20# flourocarbon more often than my braid.  Maybe it's just a personal preference thing, but I like flourocarbon for its near invisibility factor.  If you decide to go with braid, you can always tie a 20-25# leader to the braid like others have mentioned.   Just my 2 cents.
