I've purchased a couple Kistler Argon Spinnerbait rods and have been pretty happy with their performance so far this season. They are both Med action with Mod-fast tips. The reason for my question is that I've noticed some upper end rod manufactures ( Loomis) list all of their dedicated spinnerbait rods with an extra-fast tip. This of course is just the opposite way of thinking from the manufactures that offer theirs in a Mod-Fast or at least a much slower tip.

What do those of you that have dedicated spinnerbait rods prefer? My Kistler's having a slower tip kind of goes against the idea of slow tip for anything with treble hooks and fast/ex-fast for baits with a single hook.

Just wondering what you guys prefer....

I like a stiff rod for my spinnerbaits since I believe it helps me drive those heavy stiff hooks into the bony bass' mouth.  But I've read from some people on here that they actually prefer as soft a rod as a crankbait rod for them.  I guess it depends on how much tendency you have to swing for the fence when you set a hook.  If you're that way then you might want a softer rod.  If you can control it, or even set the hook half heartedly instead of really meaning it then you might want a stiffer rod to help.  That's my take on it anyway and it's by no means an expert opinion.

The one I personally use is a 6'6" medium heavy rod with a fast tip.  The Shimano Compre CPC66MHB.  I'd have probably went extra fast on the tip (the CPCX66MHB) but I wanted it to be able to throw a lot of different weights of spinnerbaits as well as jigs and T-rigs or maybe even an extra large jerkbait from time to time (I like my rods to multi task).  I felt that the slightly slower tip would help it load better on lighter weight baits.  That might be wrong but I had to start somewhere.  It was either fast or extra fast and I thought the extra fast would narrow down its usable range (that is...the range that "I" operate in anyway) more than I would otherwise want.

It looks like so far the F/XF tip rods are the most popular spinnerbait rods going. It's just interesting that some rod manufactures offer their whole line of spinnerbait rods in Mod-Fast action and then others are just the opposite...

I caught a fish on a spinnerbait using a medium/fast rod tonight, a 6'6" Shimano Convergence, specifically. I have it paired with a Citica D and it works well enough, but I really dont fish spinnerbaits that often. But, i have to say, the tip on that rod is more moderate fast, to me at least. Didn't have any problems setting the hook, though.

It really depends on the weight of the spinnerbait, and what I'm doing with it.

For casting to small targets in shallowish water or under docks with light baits, I use my shorter AVC62MXF.

For long casts, and slow rolling, nothing beats my AVC70MHM.

For ledge busting, stroking, or jigging a single blade, I like my AVC70MHF.

For burning/bulging a double willow, I like my LTB70MF.

mh/f for open water casting.

mh/xf for pitching to cover.

My dedicated rig is an Avid AVC70MF/ Shimano Metanium.

For 3/4 oz Ledgebusters and Mattlures Baby Bass, Legend

7 foot medium/heavy fast for me. I especially like this rod when throwing the 3/4 ounce spinnerbaits that Glenn turned me on to in the spinnerbait video. I am fishing waters I had hard time reaching with 1/2 or 3/8 ounce spinnerbaits.
