Best knot for fluorocarbon line with crankbaits?

Featured Replies

I'm going to try 12# fluorocarbon line for deep cranks this year. What knot do you recommend?

I like the Palomar knot in general for terinal tackle. Be careful passing the trebels through the loop though. There are several good knot articles and diagrams on the site.

I use a uni-knot for all my floro including cranks.  As I have had bad results with a palomar on floro but I use the palomar on other line types.

Make sure that you lubricate the knot well with water or saliva before you tighten it regardless of what knot you use!

I use a palomar with my 12lb fluoro. As long as you moisten the knot before tightening I have had no problems.

I started to use a Fast Lock Bass Snap for crankbaits as it is easier to change them when fishing and to tie the snaps on the line using a Palomar knot.

Try this technique this year and I think you will like it.

I have been known to do the same with spinnerbaits. There is a simple method to use to be able to use a snap on a spinner bait.  ;)   :o   :o

Palomar on 12lb Trilene 100% fluro.. ;)

I've read more than once that the palomar is not reccomended for FC lines, but I've had no problems at all and I use FC quite a bit.

It's very important to moisten the line first, or the line can burn itself when chincing up the knot, in regards to the palomar.

I read to use the Eugene knot and I did this all last year and never had a knot failure at all.  Was very impressed with how well it tied tightly without slipping.
