In reality, any rod in that range will be good.  AllStars are great rods.

Go to Academy and pick up an All Star Classic..good rod to start out with in your price range.

AllStar is not what they were at one time. You are not going to get a "good" rod for under 80 beans. St Croix Triumph Series might possibly be under 80 depending on what length, but its not a "GOOD" rod,,it's an ok rod.Good rods will have good conponents,FUJI reel seats& guides,,Alconites, not Hardloys.Of course,my opinion on whats good,is of course,my opinion. That being said,I use St. Croix Avids, and Daiwa Zillions. They are definitely "GOOD" rods, probably very good.

Best rods I have seen in that price range is the NEW Fenwick Eagle GT... The old ones were clunky and heavy. The new ones are nice and responsive and pretty light. Especially for the price tag ($60-70) . They aren't in the same class as the other rods I use(I have 9 LTB's and 3 Avids) but they arent bad. I picked one up yesterday at Cabelas as I was looking for a rod for a specific application and couldn't justify the $230 for another LTB to get used a few times a year. The Fenwick will fit the bill perfectly. They are decent rods. You won't get GLX sensitivity in that price range but you won't feel like you are fishing junk either. I like the new Eagles better than the Triumph, Team All Stars and other rods I have seen "cheap".

While not the "sexiest" rods in the bunch, the Shimano Clarus rods are very nice rods for the price.  They also have an outstanding warranty!

do we know that alconites are only slightly harder than hardloys?their is nothing wrong with hardloys for most apllications.i've used them with braid and had no problems.

For that money I recommend a Shimano Clarus, very good rod.

BPS 'Bionic Blades are also good rods.

BPS Extreme - on sale they go for 70 bucks.

Lots of people really liked the older F&S rods Dock.... The coupons that Dick's has around, you could probably try one for under $40. Some of the Dick's stuff is indeed pretty nice for the money..... Hmmmm

Those F&S rods at Dicks don't feel half bad.  They are lighter and alot less tip heavy than the SC Mojos.

Another vote for the Clarus... :D

I had a 6'6" two-piece F&S spinning rod (the $40 model, whichever one that is) for a very short time. Used it twice and snapped the tip high-sticking a small bass over some shoreline weeds. Yes, I know I shouldn't be high-sticking bass out of the water, but every other rod I've ever used has handled it just fine. I returned it and picked up a Triumph to replace it. While the Triumph is far from stellar, it has held up much better than the F&S and is more sensitive.

you would be better off with a st croix mojo or premier for a few more dollars. triumphs are not too bad, just a little lackluster.

Bassmaster rated the Clarus the best rod for under $70 in a past issue.  If you like the split handle the Abu Vendetta looks very good and is highly thought of from the reviews I've read.  Local shop sells the Skeet Reese Tessera rods for $76.

Interesting. What in particular do you find exciting about the Premier and the Mojo? I have a Premier and a Triumph and honestly don't see a nickel's worth of difference between the two.

My tip-heavy Mojo is a great rod! :D At $100 a pop with a 5 yr warranty, can you do much better for the price? NO!

;) I paired one Mojo with a Citica DPV (big ol reel) and the other with a Procaster SE. They get as much use as my Revo/Avid combos. If it breaks within 5 yrs, I can upgrade it anyway! The Mojo is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars at BPS after 2 years of ratings, they must suck. ;D
