First spinning gear setup...

Featured Replies

Well, i think its time for me to get a new rig, but i want spinnig this time.

Lets just say this will not be my first spinning setup, because when i was about 7, i had an ugly stick combo. But I feel that in fact i need to add atleast 1 to my arsenal.

I Know what type rod im looking for, A 6'8"-7'3" M/XF pole for throwing light plastics etc.

But, i know nothing about reels for them.

Could you guys give me some suggestions for reels and rods that fit my needs? In the price range of 200-250

Thanks,

Collin

A price range would really help. We need to know whether to recommend a Cumara/C14 or a Vendetta/Mid-priced spinning reel.

Sorry! Im looking too spend $200-250 all together!

For the rod a st.croix avs68mxf. Now for a reel a Shimano  symeter 2500 would be nice.Should fallin your price range! :)

i would get this without thinking twice about it.

Bass Pro Shop Carbonlite 6'8" MXF and a Shmano Symetre 2500. I have a couple of these and I am really happy with them.

Check both Cabelas and Bass Pro as they are having sales on all types of rods and reels.

I would say the Quantum Kinetic or Catalyst PTiB 20 reels and any of the rods on sale ., Cabelas Prodigy, Quantum Superlite or All Star ASR which are all on clearance at Cabelas.

Totally agree, you could also get the Sahara instead of the Symetre and save a few $$.

I love Avid rods for the price. And although I have the Legend Tournament in 6'-8" MXF, I have since aquired a few Avids, and would probably choose it over the LT and save a few bucks.

All Shimano reels from the Sahara up are nice, I'd upgrade to the Stradic 2500 reel if possible, but the Sahara or Symetre woud certainly serve you well. I have all 3.

One of the high end Pflueger spinning reels, the Supreme or Supreme XT, these are comparable to $200 spinning reels. Paired with an Abu Garcia Vendetta or St. Croix Mojo Bass.

The 2 new Pfluegers may be nice reels, based on past performance of the present supreme and xt.  But the budget is up to $250, so that does not leave much for the rod, imo the more important of the 2 pieces of equipment.

If it were me, providing I was a Pflueger buyer, I would consider a closeout supreme or xt, I think I read somewhere on BR these were selling now for $65 & $99 from Gander or Dicks.  Both these reels have already been proven.

6'8" powell max medium/xf paired with a 2500 Daiwa teirra spinning reel. Awesome combo!
