I have a new rod arriving this week.  It is a 7' Medium Light that will be dedicated for cranks, jerkbaits and treble hook topwaters, all smaller baits because it is a ML rod.  It will be paired with a Revo S-L.  There is possibilities that I could be fishing nearby some wood but not right in the thick of it.  What line would you recommend?  I use PP on all my other setups.  I have used Trilene XT in the past for cranks, I am just wondering if there is a better option.  Thanks in advance.

I've been using Sufix Elite in 14 lb. test and it has worked for everything I've put on it; from soft plastics to crankbaits. It's pretty tough stuff and if your looking for tougher, there is the siege. Check it out and see what you think.

Im thinking about picking up some P-Line CXX 10# for my cranking duties. I think it would fit your scenario well also 8-)

Edit: I've been using Sufix Siege 10# and have been nothing but happy with it, I just wanna try Copoly.

I use Pline CX Premium on my baitcasters.

No one line does it all, but here are a few I used and really like for casting reels. Keep in mind, I don't like 90% of the lines I've tried, so if it ain't on the list....

P-Line CXX in 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 lb. sizes.

Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon in 12 lb. 10 lb. is just "OK."

Power Pro in 50, 65, 80 lb.

Suffix Siege in 12 and 14 lb.

Big Game 17 lb.

I'll add a new one for me.... Fireline Tracer Braid in 50. Just for frogs. Hate it for jigs, t-rigs, and other baits that put the line in contact with the bottom or other cover.

For your application, 10 lb. CXX fits the bill.

I like 10 or 12 lb. Trilene XL for those applications.  Abrasion resistance is irrelevant, and the line casts and handles very smoothly.  Check for nicks and re-tie occasionally, but I have not had any issues.  Try it, you may like it; if not, it is so inexpensive you will not feel too bad to chuck it.

Personally, I would go with yozuri hybrid I have it on all my rods similar to your new setup. tried other lines but always go back.

I was a diehard Trilene fan but I haven't looked back since I found this.

10lb CXX

I am using CXX on most of my gear this season. It is by far the best line line I've used. I have 6# on my spinning reels, and 12 or 15# on my M and MH baitcasters. I think 10# for that rod, and those applications would be a fine choice. I would recommend treating the line with KVD Line and Lure for the best performance.

As you can see by the few responses, line preferences are very subjective. Some of us love CXX, others not so much. Many love YoZuri, some of us not so much. The list is long...fortunately most of the mono and copolymer lines are inexpensive. If you try one and don't like it, it won't break the bank to try something else. Good luck.

if you are throwing small baits , i would down size the line . i use 8 lb. P-line CXX clear for 3/8 oz. and under baits . i get longer casts and gives the bait a little better action .

I'd use Suffix Siege. Casts as well as Trilene XL, and is more sensitive.

For light cover and smaller lures, I agree with the comment about using lower pound test.

I really see the difference between Trilene XL and Siege with jerkbaits and Spooks. With Siege, I can make the spook walk in a crisp zig-zag manner. With Trilene XL, it's more of a slushy movement. I'd bet similar things happen with a jerkbait, which of course I can't see because it's under the surface.

EDIT: also, the lower stretch of siege gives me great hooksets. My landing to hook-up ratio has gone up pretty significantly (I do feel you need to set the hook even with treble hooks) after I switched to Siege from Trilene XL.

while i havnt tried tons of mono's like other have , seige is my favorite.

I've used a lot of monos, but kept coming back to Suffix.  They have a Deep Crankin' line that is sweet for c'baits.  Love their Flouro, but it's really hard to find in stores. 

My new rod arrived today.  I went with the CXX in 10lb test.  I will post back and let you know how I like it.  Thanks for all the help!
